A troubling pattern is said to be unfolding at DPL Festive Bread bakery facility located along Lunga Lunga Road in Nairobi.
Known for its prominent production of baked goods distributed nationwide, the company’s name has now become associated with a disturbing scheme preying on job-seeking youth.

Multiple reports suggest that unsuspecting applicants are being drawn into a staged recruitment process that appears to serve no purpose beyond collecting money under false pretenses.
According to detailed accounts from those nearly duped, hopeful jobseekers are asked to pay a fee supposedly meant for mandatory “training.”
Each day, new groups of roughly 20 young people reportedly show up at the gate, documents in hand, after being promised a job offer pending this payment. But after handing over the cash, many say they are sent home with vague promises of a follow-up call that never comes.
On weekdays, lines of applicants are said to form at the site, many visibly carrying document envelopes and holding onto the hope of a livelihood, only for their efforts and money to disappear into thin air. Some of those who’ve walked away from the experience describe feeling misled and exploited, especially given the company’s bold signage that claims the premises to be a “corruption-free zone.”
The pattern appears consistent and sustained, with no indication of accountability or verification for where the so-called training payments are directed.
Those familiar with the operation allege that specific personnel within the facility have become synonymous with the collection process, leaving many to suspect that the operation is less about job creation and more about extracting money from desperate youth.
“Hi Cyprian Nyakundi, ficha ID. There is an issue about Festive Bread Company that is along Lunga Lunga Road. Those people are conning the poor youths in the name of “we’ll employ you.”
There is this silly Kalenjin ako hapo, they always demand 5K of which ati ni ya training 😂 I was to become a prey. Imagine they enroll at least 20 people a day and it’s a continuous recruitment and every interested person analipa hiyo 5K, unaambiwa utapigiwa simu 😂. You can see ama upite hapo weekdays, you’ll find people na bahasha ya documents, but guess they get the 5K then inaenda ivo juu hawapigi simu 🥺. Most youths are the victims of such.
Na hapo ndani wameandika it’s a corruption-free zone.”
