 Early Life and Education

Born in January 1989 in Kakamega County, western Kenya, Salasya faced significant challenges growing up in a rural area.

He became highly conscious of the developmental issues affecting his hometown, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure.

He began his education at Shanderema Primary School and later attended Lubinu High School in Kakamega County, completing his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Salasya pursued higher education at Egerton University, earning a Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Finance.

 Career and Political Journey

After graduating in 2014, Salasya started his career as a sales representative for a local bicycle dealer.

He later secured employment at Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) as an operations officer/cashier.

His passion for leadership led him to participate in campus politics during his time at Egerton University, where he was recognized as the best student leader.

In 2017, Salasya made his first attempt at national politics by vying for the Mumias East MP seat but was unsuccessful, garnering only 254 votes.

Undeterred, he continued to engage with his community, volunteering as a tutor at Sigalagala National Polytechnic and advocating against the collapse of Mumias Sugar Millers.

With support from the community and a Ksh100,000 contribution from Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Salasya ran again in 2022 under the DAP-K party and won the parliamentary seat.

Public Persona and Controversies

Known for his bold and sometimes cheeky public persona, Salasya often utilizes humor to connect with his constituents.

However, his approach has occasionally led to controversies.

In 2023, he faced criticism for his contributions during the Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi, where he admitted lacking knowledge on climate change topics.

Salasya has also been involved in physical altercations, including an incident where he slapped a Member of the County Assembly during a burial in Mumias.

Thus leading to his arrest and subsequent release on bail.
