Workers at Nairobi-based food processing company Bakuli Foods Ltd are up in arms, accusing the firm of repeatedly failing to honour salary obligations over extended periods, with several employees claiming they endured months of unpaid labour before being forced to leave in frustration.

According to those familiar with the situation, the company has allegedly developed a reputation for making verbal assurances and offering vague timelines for payment, only to fail to follow through, leaving affected staff in financial limbo.
While some workers eventually resigned after giving up hope of recovering their dues, others remain in limbo, clinging to the company’s repeated promises of future payment.
The claims suggest a broader pattern of systemic non-compliance rather than isolated payroll delays, prompting renewed calls for labour authorities to scrutinise the company’s employment practices and enforce accountability.
Though full details remain the subject of ongoing disclosures, the testimonies point to a troubling workplace culture marked by opacity, broken assurances, and a disregard for basic workers’ rights.
Below is what one of the affected workers shared, offering a firsthand account of the frustration, financial strain, and silence that has come to define their experience with Bakuli Foods Ltd.
“Hi Nyakundi. I need your help. There’s this company called Bakuli Foods Ltd. They don’t pay their workers. I worked there for four months without pay until I decided to leave. Even today, the people I left behind have still not been paid.
They kept promising to pay, so I didn’t raise the issue anywhere, hoping they’d eventually fulfill their promise. But nothing has happened.
I’m owed three months’ salary. My salary was Ksh 35,000 per month.
Please help highlight this.”
