VeGrid Energy CEO Thomas Mboya Ogutu's Controversy Deepens as 20% Ownership Between Suspended Nairobi Finance CEC Charles Kerich Comes Out
Investigation · 3h
The controversy surrounding VeGrid Energy and its Chief Executive Officer Thomas Tom Ogutu has taken a new twist after entrepreneur and AI inventor Hannes Bend released a video alleging that Nairobi County Finance CEC Charles Kerich is connected to the solar company.
The video, which has circulated widely on social media, forms part of a growing public campaign by Bend, who has for months been making allegations against Ogutu arising from a business dispute that he says escalated into threats, intimidation, xenophobic abuse, and concerns for his personal safety.
In the latest video, Bend displays a newspaper report relating to Charles Kerich's legal troubles and claims that his own investigations uncovered links between the Nairobi County official and VeGrid Energy.
According to Bend, company records he reviewed show Kerich as being associated with the company. He further states that during his interactions with VeGrid CEO Thomas Mboya Ogutu, he was told that Kerich held a stake in the business and possessed significant influence because of his government position.
Bend claims he possesses recordings, documents, and other evidence which he says have already been shared with his lawyers and trusted associates for safekeeping.
Video Raises New Questions ¶
In the video, Bend argues that the connection between a senior county official and a private company warrants public scrutiny.
He suggests that the matter is larger than his personal dispute with Ogutu and instead raises broader questions about corporate influence, governance, and accountability.
Bend also says that Ogutu previously discussed Kerich's role in the company and described him as a powerful figure capable of influencing outcomes.
However, the video has reignited interest in the ownership structure of VeGrid Energy and the identities of individuals associated with the company.
Kerich's Ongoing Legal Challenges ¶
The allegations emerge at a difficult time for Charles Kerich, who has recently been the subject of significant legal proceedings involving Nairobi County Government.
Court records and media reports indicate that Kerich has been embroiled in contempt-of-court proceedings linked to disputes involving county finances and enforcement of court orders.
The matter gained national attention after reports emerged concerning his travel outside the country amid ongoing legal proceedings.
These legal challenges have increased public interest in Kerich's business relationships and affiliations beyond government service.
While no evidence has publicly linked the ongoing court matters to VeGrid Energy, Bend argues that the overlap warrants closer examination.
From Business Dispute to Public Campaign ¶
Bend's allegations against Ogutu originally arose from work he says he performed in connection with VeGrid Energy.
According to Bend, disagreements over compensation later deteriorated into a series of hostile exchanges.
He has publicly shared screenshots of WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by Ogutu containing statements that he interpreted as threats, intimidation, and xenophobic remarks.
Among the messages released by Bend are statements warning him to stop certain activities, references to him being a foreigner, and warnings that he says caused him to fear for his safety.
Bend has repeatedly maintained that he reported the matter to authorities and property managers but believes his complaints were not adequately addressed.
Those allegations remain disputed and have not been determined by a court.
Calls for Transparency ¶
The latest claims have expanded the controversy beyond the original business dispute.
What began as a disagreement between a foreign entrepreneur and a solar company now touches on issues involving corporate ownership, public office, investor protection, governance, and the treatment of individuals who raise complaints against influential figures.
Bend argues that transparency is necessary because of the positions held by some of the individuals he has named.
He says he is prepared to testify under oath regarding the statements he attributes to Ogutu and the information he claims to possess concerning VeGrid's ownership structure.
Whether those allegations can be substantiated remains to be seen.
What is clear, however, is that the VeGrid saga is continuing to grow, drawing in new personalities, fresh allegations, and increasing public interest.
For now, the claims remain allegations rather than established facts.
But as more information emerges and legal processes unfold, the controversy is likely to intensify scrutiny of both VeGrid Energy and the individuals whose names are now being linked to the dispute.
