Story · Sonko case against EACC sent to Anti-Corruption division

[ad_1] Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko A case filed by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko challenging corruption investigations against him has now been referred to the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court.

Justice James Makau of the Constitutional Division of the High Court directed  that the  file  be placed before the presiding judge  of the High Court’s  Anti-Corruption Division  this morning  for further directions.

The judge also declined to stop the investigations as sought by Sonko on grounds that the matter was not in the right jurisdiction.

“I therefore decline to grant any directions on this matter as it is not in the right forum. I accordingly transfer the file to the Anti-corruption court,” ruled Justice Makau.

This was after EACC and its director of Investigations Abdi Mohamud, through lawyer Paul Muite, sought to have the petition transferred to the Anti-graft division. Petition opposed Earlier, Sonko through lawyer Cecil Miller, had opposed petition and sought time to allow him file responses to the application by the EACC and Mohamud.

Miller further stated that Sonko would  continue to suffer prejudice unless the orders sought were granted. He said EACC and Muhamud were biased against Sonko and should not be allowed to probe him.

“The petitioner is not saying he is above the law but pending hearing and determination of this matter, EACC and Mohamud should be barred from investigating him,”he said. From the web [ad_2] Source link
