North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-Un has guided a military drill simulating an attack and seizure of a frontline South Korean island, Pyongyang’s state media said Saturday.

The drill came as tensions grow ahead of an annual US-South Korea joint Key Resolve/Foal Eagle military exercise that is reportedly to start early next month.

Artillery units were among the troops taking part in the drill on the islets of Mu and Jangjae “in the biggest hotspot in the southernmost part of southwestern front”, Pyongyang’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

The defence detachment on Mu Islet shelled South Korea’s Yeonpyeong island in 2010 in an angry reaction to a firing drill conducted by the South near the disputed sea border in the Yellow Sea, killing four South Koreans.

Kim Jong-Un in 2012 visited Mu and Jangjae, honouring the troops on Mu Islet with the title of “Hero Defence Detachment”. He made two more trips to the frontline islands in 2013 and threatened to “wipe out” Yeonpyeong Island and other South Korean islands near the border.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, citing an unidentified government official, said the live-fire drill had taken place on Friday.

Anti-ship Silkworm missiles and ground-to-air missiles were launched as multiple rocket launchers and self-propelled guns were also used, Yonhap said.

North Korea’s top newspaper Rodong Sinmun splashed its front and second pages with a story on Kim’s attendance and related photos showing the firing of missiles and rockets.

“Whenever the artillerymen hit targets, Kim Jong-Un expressed his great satisfaction, saying that they were very good at the concentration of fire and such shell-fire would remove the enemy island totally”, KCNA said.

He called for the entire North Korean army to step up training to “bring the anti-US confrontation to the final conclusion by crushing the enemies promptly in case they pounce upon the DPRK (North Korea), it added.

Pyongyang fired a series of missile tests earlier this month, reflecting escalating tensions ahead of the annual joint exercises by the US and South Korean military which regularly see North-South relations go into a vertiginous tail-spin.

Both sides complain of frequent maritime incursions by the other. The disputed sea border in the Yellow Sea saw deadly clashes in 1999, 2002 and 2009.

In October last year, naval patrol boats of the two rivals briefly exchanged warning fire near Yeonpyeong island.

The de-facto maritime boundary between the two Koreas — the Northern Limit Line — is not recognised by Pyongyang, which argues it was unilaterally drawn by US-led United Nations forces after the 1950-53 Korean War.

The war ended in an armistice instead of a peace treaty, leaving the two Koreas still technically at war.

North Korea launched winter drills in November last year and since then, Kim has inspected 10 different military units, according to South Korea’s defence ministry.

He has been urging the military to complete war preparations this year, the defence ministry last week told the National Assembly’s defence committee.

How to File Your KRA Taxes via WhatsApp Using the New Digital Service
N

Nyakundi Report

Newsroom · Jan 22

Filing taxes no longer needs a computer, cybercafé, or long queues at KRA offices. The Kenya Revenue Authority has rolled out a WhatsApp chatbot that allows taxpayers to access key services directly from their phones. This new system marks a major shift in how Kenyans interact with KRA. It saves time, cuts costs, and removes barriers linked to internet access and digital skills. This guide explains how to file your KRA taxes via WhatsApp and why the service is a game-changer for millions of taxpayers. How to File Your KRA Taxes via WhatsApp is no longer a future promise. It is a live service designed to make tax compliance faster, simpler, and more accessible for every Kenyan. [PHOTO//COURTESY] Step-by-Step on How to File Your KRA Taxes via WhatsApp KRA designed the WhatsApp chatbot to simplify tax services and make them available at any time. The service runs 24 hours a day and supports 15 core tax functions, including tax filing.

To get started, save the official KRA WhatsApp number +254 711099999, on your phone. Open WhatsApp and send a simple message such as “Hi” or “Menu.” The chatbot responds instantly.

The system then asks you to verify your identity. This step protects your tax data and ensures only authorised users access personal information. Once verification is complete, the chatbot displays a menu of services you can use.

When you select tax filing, the bot guides you through the process in clear, simple steps. It explains what type of return you need to file and what details you must provide. The chatbot does not replace iTax but works as a smart assistant that walks you through filing your return correctly on the iTax portal.

KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattaga confirmed that the goal is convenience. He explained that taxpayers can file returns both via WhatsApp guidance and through the web, without visiting KRA offices. This approach reduces errors, saves time, and improves compliance. Services You Can Access Through the KRA WhatsApp Bot Tax Filing and Return Assistance The WhatsApp chatbot focuses heavily on tax filing support. It gives step-by-step instructions for filing returns, whether you are an employee, business owner, or landlord. The bot explains filing deadlines, required documents, and common mistakes to avoid.

Taxpayers also receive guidance on nil returns, which many Kenyans struggle to file correctly. By following the prompts, users reduce the risk of penalties caused by late or incorrect submissions.

This feature especially helps first-time taxpayers and small traders who find the iTax platform confusing. PIN Management and Digital Self Service Beyond filing returns, the chatbot supports PIN registration and PIN updates. Users can also ask tax-related questions and receive instant answers without waiting for customer care support.

The service integrates with eTIMS invoicing, making it easier for traders to comply with electronic invoicing rules. Users can also access digital self se-servicetions that reduce paperwork and manual processes.

KRA Chairman Ndindi Muriithi noted that modmodernizing systems improves efficiency and boosts revenue collection. He linked the digital shift to KRA’s ambitious revenue target of Kshs 2.968 trillion for the 2025/26 financial year. Why WhatsApp and USSD Mark a Turning Point for Taxpayers KRA understands that not every Kenyan owns a smartphone or enjoys stable internet access. That reality pushed the authority to expand beyond web-based platforms.

Two weeks before launching the WhatsApp chatbot, KRA introduced a USSD service accessible by dialing 222# . This service works on basic mobile phones and offers PIN registration, turnover tax, monthly rental income, payments, tax compliance certificates, customs services, and other returns.

The authority admitted that digital access remains a major challenge for many taxpayers. By offering both WhatsApp and USSD options, KRA ensures inclusivity and wider compliance.

Together, these tools reduce congestion at KRA offices, cut operational costs, and empower taxpayers to manage their obligations with ease.

Kilimani Gang Terrorizes Residents Under the Protection of Powerful Politicians
N

Nyakundi Report

Newsroom · Jan 15

Fear has settled deep in Kilimani. Residents now whisper, lock doors early, and avoid speaking to police. A dreaded criminal network, widely known by locals as the Kilimani Gang, has grown bold and ruthless. The gang operates in plain sight, breaks into homes, and walks free. Residents say a powerful politician protects the group and blocks justice at every turn. What happened at Sohail Court over Christmas exposed a dangerous truth. Crime thrives in Kilimani not because of weak laws, but because powerful hands shield criminals. The Kilimani Gang’s reign shows how crime thrives under protection and silence. Residents demand accountability, justice, and safety, hoping one day influence no longer shields criminals from the law. How the Kilimani Gang Operates Under Political Protection Residents describe a chilling pattern. The Kilimani Gang does not act randomly. It plans. It recruits insiders. It relies on fear and influence to beat the system.

The Christmas break-in exposed the network. A Sky Patrol security guard allegedly coordinated the attempted theft. A carpenter who does odd jobs inside the court joined the plan. A boda boda rider assisted with movement and escape. Workers linked to the management company allegedly played support roles. The gang moved with confidence because they believed no one would touch them.

Residents reported the crime at Kilimani Police Station. Officers arrested the security guard. CCTV cameras captured clear images of the suspects. The case looked solid. Then everything went quiet.

Sources within the estate say a prominent politician stepped in. The guard walked free. Investigations slowed. Officers stopped calling witnesses. Managers avoided meetings. Court officials refused to speak. A thick code of silence settled over Sohail Court.

This silence did not come by chance. Residents believe power crushed procedure. Influence replaced the law. The Kilimani Gang benefited. CCTV Evidence Ignored as Suspects Roam Free CCTV footage tells a clear story, according to residents who reviewed it. Cameras show faces. Cameras show movements. Cameras show coordination. Yet arrests never followed.

The carpenter still stands outside the court. He boasts openly. Witnesses say he claims family ties to the powerful politician. He tells residents no one can arrest him. He laughs at the system. That confidence terrifies the neighborhood.

The Kilimani Gang thrives on this arrogance. When suspects walk free despite evidence, criminals feel emboldened. Residents feel abandoned. Families now double-lock doors even during the day. Tenants avoid strangers. Trust has collapsed.

Security firms face hard questions too. How did a guard turn criminal? Why did management staff allegedly assist? Why has no internal audit happened? Silence answers these questions for now. Kilimani Police Under Fire for Silence and Inaction Kilimani Police Station now sits at the center of public anger. Residents say officers recorded the report but failed to act. They say pressure from above killed momentum. They say fear now guides decisions.

Police deny wrongdoing, but actions speak louder. No follow-up arrests occurred. No public update came out. No protection reached witnesses. The gang still operates in the shadows, confident that influence shields it.

This failure hurts more than one estate. It sends a message across Kilimani . Crime pays if you know the right people. The law bends for power. Ordinary citizens stand alone.

Residents now demand accountability. They want the case reopened. They want CCTV evidence reviewed independently. They want the alleged political interference investigated. They want protection from retaliation.

The gang represents more than theft. It shows how corruption feeds crime. When leaders shield suspects, criminals grow bolder. When police fall silent, fear takes over.

Kilimani residents refuse to stay quiet forever. They want justice. They want safety. They want a city where power does not excuse crime. Until then, the Kilimani Gang continues to terrorize, protected not by darkness, but by influence.

Clear Steps on How to Remove Secretary General in ODM
N

Nyakundi Report

Newsroom · Jan 6

The question of how to remove the sitting secretary general in ODM has gained national attention following a petition by Migori Senator Eddy Oketch seeking the removal of Edwin Sifuna. The move, though later withdrawn after party intervention, exposed the strict legal and party-based steps required to oust a sitting secretary general. The process follows the Political Parties Act and the ODM constitution. It demands due process, internal discipline, and formal approval by key party organs before removal becomes official. The ODM constitution sets a clear, lawful path for removing a secretary general, ensuring fairness, internal democracy, and respect for due process within the party. How to Remove Secretary General in ODM Under Party Rules The process of removing a sitting secretary general in the Orange Democratic Movement follows a clear legal and institutional path. ODM does not allow abrupt or unilateral removal. Every step must align with the Political Parties Act of 2022 and the ODM party constitution.

Any attempt to remove a secretary general begins with a formal complaint. A party member must file a petition to the national chairperson. The chairperson holds authority over disciplinary matters within the party.

The petition must outline clear grounds for removal. These include gross misconduct, violation of the party constitution, or actions viewed by the party to amount to resignation. Supporting rival political interests also qualifies under the rules.

Once received, the national chairperson forwards the petition to the ODM disciplinary committee. This step ensures that no single office acts alone. It protects the party from arbitrary decisions and internal chaos. Filing a Petition Against the ODM Secretary General The petition stage forms the foundation of removing the secretary general in ODM. Without it, the process cannot proceed.

The petition must rely on facts, not opinions. It must list specific actions that breach party rules. Vague accusations fail at this stage.

The petitioner submits the complaint formally. Informal pressure or public statements do not replace this requirement. ODM rules insist on written documentation.

In the recent case, Senator Eddy Oketch cited alleged gross misconduct. However, he later withdrew the petition after intervention by senior party leadership. That withdrawal effectively halted the process.

A petition only triggers the process. It does not remove the Secretary General on its own. Role of the Disciplinary Committee and Fair Hearing After receiving the petition, the disciplinary committee takes charge. Article 8.4.2 of the ODM constitution guides this stage. The committee must offer a fair hearing. The Secretary General has the right to respond to every allegation. The rules of natural justice apply.

The committee listens to both sides. It examines evidence and written submissions. It then reaches a finding based on party law. If the committee clears the official, the process ends. If it finds the official culpable, it prepares recommendations. These may include suspension or expulsion from office.

This stage protects party democracy. It prevents politically motivated removals driven by personal rivalries. NEC Vote and Role of the Registrar of Political Parties The National Executive Council holds the final internal authority on how to remove the secretary general in ODM.

Once the disciplinary committee submits its recommendation, the NEC convenes. Members debate the findings. They then vote on whether to remove the secretary general.

A simple majority vote is enough to approve removal. If the NEC rejects the recommendation, the secretary general remains in office.

After approval, the party must act quickly. ODM must notify the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties. The law requires submission of Form PP7 within 14 days after appointing a new officeholder.

Without this notification, the removal lacks legal effect. The registrar records the change and updates official party records.

ODM has followed this route before. In 2016, the party removed Ababu Namwamba from the secretary general position. Internal disputes and leadership tensions marked that process.

Later, the party appointed Agnes Zani in an interim role. In 2018, the NEC confirmed Edwin Sifuna as substantive Secretary General.

These events show that ODM relies on structured processes. The party prioritizes legality and internal order.

Understanding how to remove a sitting secretary general in ODM reveals a system built on checks and balances. It ensures stability, fairness, and respect for party institutions even during intense political disagreements.

How To Cook Pumpkin Leaves - Guide For Tender and Flavuorful Results
N

Nyakundi Report

Newsroom · Nov 14

Pumpkin leaves are among the most nutritious greens enjoyed in many African and Asian homes. They cook fast, work with many meals, and deliver a soft, earthy taste when prepared well. Many people avoid them because they can feel tough, but proper cleaning and gentle cooking transform them into tender, flavourful greens. This guide breaks down each step clearly and helps you prepare them without stress. If you want to enjoy healthy vegetables with simple ingredients, this step-by-step guide on how to cook pumpkin leaves will serve you well. Pumpkin leaves fit perfectly with stews, grilled meat, beans, maize meal, or rice. Their mild flavour and soft texture make them a great side dish for everyday meals. [PHOTO//Courtesy] Step-by-Step Method For How To Cook Pumpkin Leaves Pumpkin leaves need careful cleaning and gentle cooking to bring out their best flavour and soft texture. This method guides you through preparation, boiling, and seasoning so you create a tasty dish every time. Prepare And Clean Pumpkin Leaves Start by choosing fresh pumpkin leaves that look green and soft. Avoid dry or yellowing ones. Rinse the leaves under cold water to remove soil or dust.

After washing, remove the fibrous strings. Snap the leaf stalk and gently pull the threads downward until they come off. Repeat this along the edges if the leaves feel tough. This step matters because the threads can make the leaves chewy even after cooking.

Once the fibres come off, chop the leaves into medium pieces. Keep them aside and prepare to boil them. Proper cleaning sets the foundation for great results. Boil Pumpkin Leaves Place the chopped pumpkin leaves into a pot. Add a small amount of water, just enough to create steam. The leaves release their own moisture, so avoid adding too much water.

Add a pinch of salt and let the pot simmer. Allow the leaves to cook for around ten to twelve minutes. They will soften, shrink, and darken in colour. If excess water remains, drain it before moving to the next step.

Boiling prepares the leaves for seasoning. It also removes any remaining bitterness and gives them a tender base for flavour. Cook Pumpkin Leaves With Onions And Tomatoes Heat a little oil in a pan. Add chopped onions and sauté until they soften. Add tomatoes and cook until they break down into a light sauce.

Season the mixture with salt, pepper, or curry powder. Add the boiled pumpkin leaves and stir well. Let everything cook together for a few minutes so the flavours blend.

This method brings out a rich and savoury taste. Many people enjoy pumpkin leaves cooked this way with rice, ugali, or pap because the onions and tomatoes lift the mild flavour of the greens. Cook Pumpkin Leaves With Peanut Butter A traditional and creamy method involves peanut butter. After boiling the leaves, dissolve two to three tablespoons of peanut butter in warm water to form a smooth paste.

Jeremy Lin, the former NBA star who inspired millions during the “Linsanity” era, surprised fans when he revealed that he was married. In January 2023, Lin shared on social media that he had tied the knot years earlier but had chosen to keep that part of his life private. The announcement came as a heartfelt confession from a man who values privacy and faith more than fame. A year later, in 2024, he shared the joyful news of becoming a father. Despite years in the public eye, Jeremy Lin’s wife remains a mystery. He has never revealed her name or any personal details, showing his strong desire to shield his family from media attention. Jeremy Lin’s wife remains one of the best-kept secrets in sports celebrity circles. Despite his fame, Lin has managed to live a life grounded in faith, family, and gratitude. His choice to protect his wife and child from public scrutiny shows his integrity and desire to live authentically. [PHOTO//Courtesy] Jeremy Lin Wife and Marriage Details Jeremy Lin confirmed his marriage in 2023, calling it one of the most meaningful experiences of his life. He married his longtime partner in a private ceremony after dating for several years. The post announcing his marriage was deeply emotional, showing his gratitude to God and appreciation for love beyond fame.

Lin wrote that he and his wife chose to celebrate their marriage privately because they wanted to build a foundation based on faith and shared values rather than public approval. His message reflected the humility that has always defined him, both on and off the court. Here’s a summary of key details about Jeremy Lin’s personal life: Personal Detail Information Full Name Jeremy Shu-How Lin Date of Birth August 23, 1988 Age (2025) 37 years old Nationality American-Taiwanese Religion Christianity Marital Status Married (since before 2023) Wife’s Name Not publicly revealed Children One son, born in 2024 Net Worth (2025) $36 million Jeremy Lin continues to live a low-profile life, focusing on his family and faith while occasionally sharing motivational posts on gratitude, faith, and perseverance. Jeremy Lin and Kristina Wong Relationship Explained Over the years, rumors have linked Jeremy Lin to comedian and performance artist Kristina Wong. However, those claims are completely false. Kristina Wong’s “I Will Marry Jeremy Lin” project, launched around 2013, was never a real romantic pursuit.

The campaign was a satirical art performance meant to critique celebrity culture, racial stereotypes, and society’s obsession with fame. Wong dressed as a bride during NBA games and created humorous content referencing a fictional relationship with Lin. It was a creative statement, not a genuine connection.

Lin has never interacted with or acknowledged Wong’s performance in a personal way. In reality, his wife is someone he dated privately for many years before marriage—not Wong or any other public figure.

By separating his real life from public speculation, Lin has shown strong emotional maturity and commitment to protecting his loved ones. Fatherhood and Family Life In 2024, Jeremy Lin announced the birth of his first child, a baby boy. The news melted fans’ hearts when Lin described fatherhood as “the best experience of my life.” He did not share photos or his son’s name, staying consistent with his goal to protect his family’s privacy.

He occasionally posts reflections about gratitude, love, and fatherhood—messages that show a more spiritual and grounded side of him. Lin’s journey from an underdog NBA player to a devoted husband and father highlights his deep values and unshakable faith.

His love for family now shapes how he approaches life. While he no longer plays in the NBA, Lin continues to inspire fans through mentorship, philanthropy, and community work. His quiet lifestyle contrasts sharply with his fame during the height of “Linsanity,” but it reflects growth and peace. FAQs About Jeremy Lin Wife and Family Is Jeremy Lin married? NACADA’s Digital Licensing Overhaul—What Alcohol Importers Need to Know

The alcohol trade in Kenya is set for a major transformation. Effective October 1, 2025, the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) will require all importers and exporters of alcoholic beverages to process their licenses and consignment documentation through the Kenya National Electronic Single Window System, also known as the Trade Facilitation Platform (TFP). This shift under NACADA’s Digital Licensing plan aims to streamline trade processes, cut delays, and eliminate inefficiencies that have long plagued the alcohol industry. NACADA’s Digital Licensing transition is a bold step in modernizing Kenya’s alcohol trade regulation. By moving all import and export licensing processes to the Trade Facilitation Platform, the government is cutting out inefficiencies, strengthening compliance, and building a more transparent system. [Photo: Courtesy] Understanding NACADA’s Digital Licensing Transition NACADA’s digital licensing transition marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s trade facilitation journey. The introduction of the Trade Facilitation Platform (TFP) is designed to centralize and digitize all alcohol import and export licensing processes.

For years, alcohol traders faced long queues, paperwork, and bureaucratic delays while seeking approvals. The digital system now brings efficiency by integrating various regulatory agencies under one platform.

Importers, exporters, and clearing agents will need to shift to the TFP for processing their permits, ensuring compliance with government standards. By doing so, the system reduces duplication, improves coordination, and enhances accountability in the alcohol trade.

All payments linked to NACADA’s Digital Licensing will continue to be made through the eCitizen platform, which has already been fully integrated into TFP. This ensures secure and convenient transactions without imposing additional costs on traders.

The government has also emphasized that existing licenses issued before the October 1 deadline will remain valid for their full duration, although their details must be entered into the new platform to align with automated workflows.

The move ensures not just faster approvals but also seamless generation of consignment documents, reducing clearance bottlenecks at ports and border points. By automating the process, the government also gains better tools for monitoring trade, enforcing standards, and safeguarding public health. How NACADA’s Digital Licensing Will Affect Importers and Exporters For importers and exporters, NACADA’s Digital Licensing is more than just a new system—it is a redefinition of how they conduct business. The Trade Facilitation Platform offers a single-entry point to apply, track, and receive licensing approvals without physical visits to government offices.

The expected benefits include: Faster Approvals – With automated workflows, approvals that once took days can now be completed within hours. Transparency – Traders can track the status of their applications in real time, minimizing uncertainty. Reduced Costs – Even though fees remain unchanged, the removal of manual paperwork and middlemen cuts hidden costs. Enhanced Compliance – Integration with other government agencies ensures that every consignment meets the required regulatory standards before clearance. Importers and exporters are urged to familiarise themselves with the TFP before the deadline. NACADA has warned that late onboarding could disrupt operations, potentially leading to delayed shipments and missed business opportunities. Preparing for NACADA’s Digital Licensing Change To avoid disruptions, alcohol industry stakeholders should begin preparing now. NACADA has committed to supporting the transition by offering training materials, user guides, and help desks to guide traders through the process. Businesses are encouraged to allocate time for onboarding and staff training to ensure smooth adoption of the system. Steps importers and exporters should take ahead of October 1, 2025, include: Create Accounts Early – Register and familiarize your team with the TFP platform to avoid last-minute technical challenges. Update Existing Licenses – Enter details of your valid licenses into the new system so they align with the automated workflows. Train Staff – Ensure your staff understands how to navigate TFP, from application to payment. Leverage Support – Use NACADA’s training and technical assistance resources for guidance. Monitor Deadlines – Stay updated on any announcements to avoid penalties or shipment delays. The change also benefits clearing agents who handle consignments on behalf of importers. With all stakeholders integrated under one platform, coordination becomes easier, minimizing the common disputes and delays that have historically slowed cargo clearance.

Teachers and tutors across Kenya now have a new opportunity to earn, grow, and contribute to the country’s education system. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially announced vacancies for the 2025 KCSE assessor roles, focusing on eight specialized oral and practical subjects. The application window, which began on June 10, 2025, will remain open until July 30, 2025. This latest call targets secondary school teachers and college tutors looking to participate in assessing this year’s KCSE exam. If selected, successful applicants will receive on-the-job training and join the critical team that ensures national exam integrity. With the rising need for qualified assessors, KNEC is urging teachers to act fast, complete their profiles online, and meet strict eligibility criteria before time runs out. The opening of KNEC vacancies for the 2025 KCSE oral and practical papers isn’t just another job alert—it’s a call to serve, learn, and lead. Teachers across Kenya now have 50 days to grab this opportunity, sharpen their skills, and help maintain the integrity of one of the most important national exams. [Photo: Courtesy] KNEC Vacancies Offer Path to Professional Growth and National Service KNEC's newly announced recruitment exercise focuses on oral and practical papers in eight subjects: Power Mechanics, Electricity, Aviation Technology, French Oral, German Oral, Arabic Oral, Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) Signing Practical, and Music Practical.

The education body is clear about its mission—to bring in skilled, practicing professionals to maintain the standards of the KCSE assessment process. According to KNEC , this round of recruitment is meant to beef up examiner capacity for specialized exams that require not just academic knowledge, but hands-on experience in each field.

To begin the application process, interested candidates must access the official KNEC Contracted Professionals (CP2) portal. Those with existing CP2 accounts can log in directly. If a teacher has forgotten their password, they can reset it using their phone number in the format 2547XXXXXXXX.

For those without CP2 accounts, creating a new one is mandatory. The portal guides applicants through registration, profile setup, and document submission. Once logged in and profiles are complete, candidates should navigate to the “Apply for Assessors’ Vacancies” tab to view available positions and select their preferred subject.

But the process is more than just clicking through a website. Applicants must meet a strict list of qualifications. Only those who present all the required documents and meet every criterion will be shortlisted. With limited slots, competition will be tight. Eligibility Criteria for 2025 KCSE KNEC Vacancies KNEC outlined eight key requirements for interested applicants. First, one must be a practicing teacher or college tutor in the subject they wish to assess. Second, the applicant must be either employed or registered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or another recognised professional body.

Academic qualifications are also non-negotiable. Candidates must have a diploma or higher in education or the specific subject area. However, assessors applying for aviation technology must hold a Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering—a clear sign that KNEC is demanding highly skilled professionals.

In terms of experience, a minimum of three years of teaching is required. Applicants should also not be under any disciplinary action or investigation by their employer.

Importantly, teachers must be recommended by the head of their institution and must be aged 50 or below. This clause highlights KNEC’s interest in active educators who are still fully engaged in teaching duties and physically able to undertake the rigorous task of assessment. KNEC Vacancies Come With Financial Incentives The work of a KCSE assessor is not only honorable—it pays too. While rates may vary by subject, KNEC typically compensates assessors between Ksh50 and Ksh70 per script. Travel allowances are also paid, based on the distance and location of the assessment center.

This is a golden opportunity for teachers and tutors to boost their income while gaining national experience. It’s also a career step that builds one's credibility, expands professional networks, and allows one to contribute directly to shaping Kenya’s future workforce.

In addition to payment, assessors benefit from direct exposure to national assessment standards and procedures. This kind of experience strengthens classroom teaching and aligns educators with the evolving expectations of Kenya’s competency-based education system.

PHOTO CAPTION: The Mara Topi Safari Lodge A group of clients who spent big to secure booking at the Mara Topi Safari Lodge situated within the Masai Mara eco-system, have expressed regret after travelling over 230 KM from the capital city for what they characterize as a an utterly underwhelming experience.

Writing to this blog on Tuesday, August 2, one of the victims reported how they were met by an unpleasant shock after arriving at the lodge only to find out that what the establishment portrays on their social media pages is completely different from the actual structures on the ground.

Apart from misleading them about accommodation, the camp's rude owner Joyce Ndegwa forced them to pay extra money in order to access electricity at night.

This was on top of the Sh88,000 they had paid to book space for their girl's night as one of their friends turned 40. "Hi Cyprian, I need your help. A camp in mara has defrauded me and my friends. What they promised is not what we found, and had to look for an alternative immediately. They have now refused to refund our deposit which was 80% of the budget. Credible sources told us they are used to doing this to guests. The camp is Mara Topi Safari Lodge. The camp owner is called Joyce Ndegwa. I booked for 2 nights for 10 of us and we made a deposit of Sh88,000. We expected a beautiful lodge as shown in their pictures, but to our surprise when we arrived, it was an old dilapidated house with 2 Maasais who received us. To make matters worse, they told us we needed to add more money for us to have electricity at night. This is after we've told Joyce that we intended to have a night party as one of us was turning 40. Joyce has been extremely rude. I spoke to her husband in trying to resolve this amicably, who confirmed that she is unbearable. I have that on record. After we found a new place, we met other guests and their tour guides. That Mara Topi has a poor reputation and Joyce feels untouchable," the source writes.

The location is a few meters from Ballon Safaris, where guests can easily enjoy the facilities of the hot air balloon hovering over the vast wild Maasai Mara botany and mixture of animals.

[ad_1] Opposition leader Zitto Kabwe says the past four years of CCM rule have been disastrous and lays out his vision for a thriving and happy Tanzania. Opposition leader and MP Zitto Kabwe (centre, in white) visiting a market in Tanzania in October 2019. Credit: Zitto Kabwe. Tanzanian election year has arrived and should be a time to change our political and economic trajectory. We say goodbye not only to 2019 but to the past four years as the people have the power to choose a new team to create and implement policies to rid them of fear, trouble and poverty and deliver a life of wellbeing and happiness.

Over the past four years, Tanzania has experienced a period of turmoil caused by the oppressive rule of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM). Many different groups have been hurt by the decisions and actions of this regime, from government critics to ordinary farmers.

Dissidents have faced extreme suffering and cruelty. There are those who have been killed, kidnapped or disappeared and whose whereabouts remain unknown. Those who were showered in bullets near Parliament with no follow-up investigation, whose offices were bombed, who were falsely charged with money laundering and economic sabotage to silence them, and who continue to spend time in courts’ corridors and are not permitted to organise freely. All of this was enabled by repressive laws that violate people’s fundamental civil rights, freedom of the press and the basic principles of democracy.

2019 was not a typical year for me personally or for opposition parties in general. I attended numerous court hearings for cases affecting me as well as those of friends and fellow politicians. I slept in police stations and visited prisoners jailed on false pretences. I met with farmers who were never paid after selling their produce, fishermen whose fishing nets were burnt and who were beaten so badly they now have permanent disabilities, herders whose cattle were expropriated by the government and their houses burnt, workers who weren’t paid their annual salary increment, business people who were multiply taxed, pensioners who weren’t paid their benefits, sick people unable to access care in public hospitals, and students denied the chance to get a good education.

Available statistics show that President John Magufuli’s government has caused a huge amount of damage. It has undermined all major crops that were profitable in years past. Cashew nuts were a major source of forex revenue. No longer. Legumes were doing well. Not any more. The same goes for corn, tobacco and other goods. There is every indication that the government will now intervene to try and control cotton and other crops, scaring off more investors in the process.

The government boasts of the many large-scale projects it is supposedly implementing. With projects like the construction of a modern standard gauge rail line, dams for electricity generation, bridges and roads, and even the purchase of aeroplanes for the national carrier, we should have seen an annual rate of economic growth of around 10% and significant benefits for ordinary people. We should have seen more money circulating in the economy because normally investments in construction projects have a significant multiplier effect.

But in the streets, people complain that their lives are tough. This is because these large projects are financed through either domestic or commercial loans with a short maturation period. This is driving up the national debt and increasing the cost of debt servicing as the government increasing borrows internally to pay foreign creditors. By the end of November 2019, the national debt had risen to $28.6 billion, up from $22 billion in November 2015. In other words, the CCM government in the past four years has grown the national debt by $6.6 billion, or $1.5 billion annually.

The government is also borrowing internally to pay foreign contractors , which means it is taking money out of the local economy. All the large infrastructure projects currently being implemented use materials from abroad including commodities like steel. This approach undermines the government’s ability to use its spending power to stimulate domestic production. Moreover, it fails to improve the lives of Tanzanian workers. The government has failed to increase the salaries of public servants because of a lack of money as tax revenues fall and funds are sent overseas to external creditors and contractors.

In October 2015, Tanzania was ready to implement infrastructure projects worth $52.8 billion with all the necessary financing lined up. This was meant for initiatives including the Lindi natural gas pipeline ($30 billion), Bagamoyo port ($10 billion), the Standard Gauge railway ($7.5 billion), the mining of iron in Liganga and coal in Mchuchuma ($3.3 billion). All these projects would have brought money into the country and would not have used the government’s own tax revenues. If implemented as planned, many jobs would have been created, business activities would have improved, and the economy would have been stimulated.

Instead, women vendors who were promised heaven and more during the 2015 election are now being forcefully moved from markets and are being made to pay when they go to the hospital to give birth. The quality of education continues to decline, while university students who were promised loans are now being expelled for demanding the money they were promised. Both young graduates and those without an education are in the same situation: unemployed. The formal and informal sector are languishing. The elderly have to keep working even in their old age because their younger family members are unable to get jobs or a decent income due to the declining economy.

At the same time, the prices of basic commodities continue to rise and increase the cost of living. A sack of corn is now at $38, up from $17 in October 2018. The price of rice and beans have risen too. In October 2015, the country had a food reserve of 253,600 tonnes. Since Magufuli entered office, the government no longer maintains a food reserve. What was there has mostly been sold to help purchase its aeroplanes, leaving just 55,000 tonnes, equal to one kilo of grain for each Tanzanian.

We are told that this administration is fighting corruption, yet the same administration resists all forms of transparency and passes laws to ensure it can continue conducting its business in the dark. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), Prof Mussa Assad, was unconstitutionally removed from his post because he refused to be controlled and continued to expose the unaccounted-for loss of public funds. Tanzanians are not stupid. You cannot make them believe that you are fighting corruption when what you are really doing is fighting those investigating corruption.

Despite being prevented from carrying out routine political activities for four years, opposition parties prepared themselves for the December 2019 local elections so that Tanzanians would have a chance to express their frustration with the current administration. But CCM decided to deprive Tanzanians of their right to choose the leaders they prefer. The ruling party, which alone has been able to conduct its political activities unhindered for the past four years, was afraid to go before the people to be judged. It deprived people of their constitutional right to choose in a cruel, unjust, repressive act for which there is no precedent aside from the stolen 2015 election in Zanzibar. What do we expect in 2020? This is the situation Tanzania finds itself in as we greet the new year. The good news is that, despite being beaten down, Tanzanians don’t easily lose heart or give up hope. After four years of work without a pay rise, farming without getting a good price, doing business without profit because of excessive taxes, and living without freedom of expression, ACT-Wazalendo envisions working alongside Tanzanians to build a country where people live with happiness, where people who work hard benefit from their sweat, where watu wana kazi na pia bata (“people have jobs and ducks too”) and they have bread but also roses. We envision building a Tanzania where the economy flourishes and our policies ensure an inclusive, solidaristic economy rooted in job creation.

We will also take on the leadership of a country facing many challenges resulting from a growing population. At present, there are 11 million primary school-age children and that number will reach 16 million by 2025. In other words, we have to increase available class space by 24,000 each year. But we also have to stimulate economic activity so that Tanzanians can get jobs as an additional 1.6 million people enter the job market annually, of whom only 70,000 currently get a job.

As the leader of a party preparing for government, I know the extent of the challenges we face, many of which are a result of the decisions made by our current government. By contrast, I want our party to head a government that can attract foreign direct investment to increase wealth and expand productive economic activities. I want us to increase the number of tourists to reach six million per year so we can create many good jobs and earn more foreign exchange. I want our party to lead a government that implements policies that enable us to benefit more from our natural resources such as minerals, forests, and natural gas. God has granted us a country with an advantageous geography, with a long coast and surrounded by other countries with which we can trade. I want to lead a government that uses that opportunity to turn Tanzania into a major transport and commercial hub in the Great Lakes region.

I also want to see us invest more in the economic activities of ordinary Tanzanians, especially agriculture by extending irrigation to new areas and expanding the areas for fishing and animal husbandry. An economy for and by the people is what makes a country strong, not an economy run for and by the government. ACT-Wazalendo wants to build an economy for ordinary people through the expansion of workers’ cooperatives, business associations and trade unions.

The Tanzania we are imagining is a Tanzania with good social services, quality education and skilled graduates, a Tanzania with enough teachers, enough classrooms, and investment in vocational training. Our aim is to have quality health care to treat people, to have enough health centres and hospitals, diagnostic labs, skilled health workers and improved water sanitation to reduce the overall disease burden.

The aim of ACT-Wazalendo is to build a strong judicial system to combat bribery, to release the many people who have been falsely charged over the past four years, and to clear the records of those sentenced and punished for crimes they did not commit. Our dream of a future Tanzania is itself borne out of the dreams of many Tanzanians we have met on our listening tours of the country, a Tanzania where life is filled with happiness, where people work but have luxuries too. We believe that, by continuing to gather the views and opinions of ordinary Tanzanians, we will be able to develop a manifesto that guides us to our goals.

I wish all Tanzanians a happy 2020. Keriako Tobiko, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Environment.

Good morning Nyakundi,

I am a former employee of the RANET Program under meteorology in the Ministry of environment.

RANET was a program under the state department of Meteorology which was started by the late minister John Michuki in 2007 and disbanded in July 2019.

RANET Program was meant to disseminate crucial weather information to communities living in weather hazard areas. A RANET Station composed of a weather station and a community radio station. It was a partnership between the communities and the Meteorological department of Kenya.

Weather observation used to be done at the station then sent to Meteorological department for analysis and advisory. The analysis and advisory to mitigate against natural disasters used to be disseminated through RANET Radio stations.

There were six such RANET Stations in Kenya, Kangema (Muranga), Bundalangi (Western) Kwale(Coast), Nganyi (Vihiga), Garbatulla (Isiolo) and Suswa (Narok). As you can see the stations are in areas where communities are affected by extreme weather occurrences.

Keriako Tobiko’s tenure as the cabinet secretary (CS) in the Ministry of Environment, has seen him have a passionate dislike for Meteorological department and the personnel that leads the department. He has harrassed the department and refused to fund running projects which are crucial. A good example is the disbandment of RANET this year, which saw 86 Kenyans loose their jobs which were collapsible casual contracts.

In reference to the title of my email to you is the Hells Gate tragedy in Naivasha. Since the previous and the last tragedy the involved PCEA Members in 2012 we have not heard another. The reason being the RANET Suswa which sought to give this crucial weather information to these area of Narok/ Naivasha was no more this financial year.

The guides and the personnel at Hells gate Naivasha relied on this crucial weather information disseminate through Suswa RANET which is no more.

We blame this tragedy solely to Keriako Tobiko who crushed the RANET program this financial year for no satisfactory reason not to approve Kenya Meteorological department budget to run this program. The tragedy is as a result of negligence and bureaucracy exhibited by him.

Please expose Keriako Tobiko’s neglect on meteorology department and hide my identity.

Which is it? God or karma?

Here our opinion leader today asks what guides your moral principles, if in any case you have one:

READ

Hello Nyakundi,

Kenya is 85 percent Christian and so they will say that they allow God to guide their conscience, but do they?

I stand accused and labelled a heathen to think that only few Kenyans allow God to guide them on matters moral. Most Kenyans use Christianity as a convenient cloak to camouflage their actions devoid of God's guidance. They are only lucky God is patient or he would wipe us all away from the face of the earth.

Well, if you truly seek God's guidance before you make any moral decision then you cannot say I am totally wrong. You know what God the son says in Luke 6. "The measure you give to others will be the measure you will receive, pressed down and overflowing". Tenda wema utakujia, tenda ubaya utakurudia wewe na wanao. KARMA Karma is initially a Hindu principle that guides them into getting saved from the cycle of rebirth the soul undergoes in its many journeys here before it attains eternal life and bliss or Nirvana. Hindus live with this in mind. That is to do good so as not to come back to this life when one dies but to enter the home of the Gods.

Karma has come to also mean the cause and effect of our actions which decide our next fate. All actions stand judged as being good or bad. Good actions give us blessings while bad ones bring woes not only to ourselves but also to our loved ones. The old testament teaching in the analogy of the parents eating sour grapes and the children's teeth being set on edge. Or God revisiting the sins of the parents up to the 3rd and 4th generation. That is 90 to 120 years from now. DO KENYANS CARE ABOUT THE ABOVE? No. Or they would not do all the abominable things they do to fellow human beings. It does not matter if they use violence or thieving or pretending to be good to others to get a chance to treat them badly.

But Kenyans are the naive type of human beings to believe that as long as things look okay now, they will remain the same even in future. They think they can shape their future destiny, but can they?

No. But they realize this too late. That whatever they did to others to seek their own comfort and happiness does not come out the way they wanted it to.

Few Kenyans know what one Bob Marley said..." Seeking materialism has to do with numbers which are infinite. . And that anybody looking for happiness in materialism will do so for a long time."

So far no human being has come up to claim they have retired from seeking materialism because they have had enough. They never will. A millionaire wants to be a billionaire and a billionaire wants to have the most billions in the US Dollars.

Few Kenyans and indeed wide world humanity know that materialism attracts sadness. Zaccheus of the Gospels knew no peace till he decided to return fourfold what he had stolen from fellow Jews, and to offload half his wealth on to the poor people. There was much joy in his house that day.

Thieving what belongs to others and hoarding it turns one into the famous Dead Sea, which remains devoid of any life despite receiving water from the same river feeding the Sea of Galilee.

And with so many life-threatening things hanging over us like the sword of Damocles, it would be prudent not to court them to ourselves by doing bad actions. Cancer is one such a sword that captures one unawares like a demon. And what about the many accidents that could see a whole family die in a luxury car bought with money meant to buy drugs for those dying in hospitals? Or having ones kids die in mysterious circumstances including suicide as a measure pressed down and overflowing for another measure we gave to fellow wananchi ?

Certainly, if we do not allow God to guide our conscience then we cannot escape the consequences of our deeds. This is what Karma says also.

Think about this and make an about turn. This will make it easy for you and others to enjoy your 70 or so years that God assigns most of us. Do not steal and horde for the time you are very old in your 80s and 90s or 100s you think. At 70 you have almost reached your apex. Then you start your journey downwards to go back to where Job and all human babies come from...naked and empty handed. Money and all those things you have acquired, real estates, mansions, uncultivated lands will soon lose meaning to you. Like what some Old Testament prophet said..,your stolen food will turn into gravel when you put it into your mouth to eat.

Signed: Shosh.

When I was a teen growing up in Central Kenya, in the 1960s I had dreams, one of which was to be a lawyer. I dont know why I had such a dream because I didnt know any lawyer. I am happy I ended up a mere teacher. A teachers tools of trade, chalk and board and the innocent looking clients do not tempt one to do wrong.

Now, in the last three years I have come across lawyers of all types thanks to the liberal media. Now I am beginning to wonder what lawyers learn in the school of law. To uphold or undermine justice or both?

Of course I never underestimate the value of a good lawyer who defends justice and helps one who has been accused falsely set free. I have seen this in foreign movies and it makes me wish all lawyers were the same.

However, what I see in our courts through the media makes me think that there are lawyers, and they are many, who are there to break the law with impunity. Some lawyers fail to know that the people and God see through their lies. I have in mind lawyers who defend criminals who have already been judged and condemned in the peoples courts.

So you see a criminal suspected of murdering or facilitating a murder freed from remand simply because his rights have to be upheld. Well and good. But what about the rights of the dead and the feelings of the family who are after justice?

Such a dangerous individual is set loose to interfere with the defence and hurt the offended all the more. Yet, a character who slaughters a cat is caged and yet such a person affects only a small number of people who do not know they have eaten cat meat and have not got sick by so doing.

Here the lawyer called a judge or a magistrate leaves us asking alisomea wapi? Alisoma nini?

Take another category of lawyers lying to and misleading the court with impunity. These are those lawyers who hover around a loaded criminal as defenders. Sorry learned friends for using a bad word " hover".But that is the way I see you on the TV screen

A teacher sees things in black and white.

A defence lawyer tells his judge that a suspect could not answer to the summons because they were out of town. Which town?

A bettter answer would have been they were in a deep cave not reached by those things called GPRS.

Another lawyer insists that his client should continue in the office he is accused of abusing because if barred the people he serves will be denied vital services. A mere teacher knows that once suspected of breaching the Code of regulation, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) acts immediately and interdicts the teacher for not less than three months; to await his case to be determined..

If innocent he gets back to work. If not he is punished. And even when found innocent the teacher is transferred to another school. When under interdiction, it does not matter if he was the only Chemistry teacher and teaching an examination class.

So dear lawyer why shouldnt the same be applied to your client? A client who has already failed the test of integrity in the eyes of the people. People still believe Palipo na moshi pana moto. And why was one picked on in the first place?

That not withstanding, there is a good category of lawyers if not corruptible. The prosecutors. I salute the two chief prosecutors in the two heavy duty corruption cases before the Milimani Courts. Mwendelee hivyo hivyo bila intimidation from the fierce defence lawyers. The offended Wananchi are behind you and praying for you. We believe your conscience guides you and cannot be bought with any price.

Dear Lawyers you will tell me to distinguish between law and morality and say you are lawyers but not moralists. I dont dispute that but imagine you have to be subjected to the same thing you are proposing.

Shosh.

Religion's high correlation with poverty in the continent is an undisputable fact. Many studies have shown that Africans are the most religious on earth, yet the continent has some of the poorest countries in the world.

While the rest of the world is working, Africans are busy praying. Yet they always blame their lack of progression on everyone else but themselves.

Africans do some of the most absurd things in the name of religion. How many times have we seen parents refuse to allow their children to receive vaccination simply because their religion “doesn't allow it” ? How about a washing roads to welcome their preachers like Prophet Owuor's followers do?

African politicians are like magicians performing for a foolish crowd. They have mastered the art of deceiving their subject through religion. Many churches and mosques allow politicians like William Ruto to attend their services and talk to the people. A “donation” then follows as they exit the place. Religious leaders savour these moments and they happily receive the money brought forth.

One of the most ridiculous things I've heard people say is “a God chosen leader”. Religion actually tries to convince us that the decision of whoever ends up in the top sit is not entirely ours, that there is a supernatural power that somehow dictates who gets elected and who doesn't. As unbelievable as it might sound, masses are duped into believing this.

Assuming that God really is in charge of this process then he has been doing a very poor job so far. Going by this ideology, he gave us Kenyatta, Moi, Kibaki and Muigai, twice. Four different regimes that haven't done much good to this country.

If these are the kind of leaders this supreme being fancies, then it's about time we stopped going to him and asking for them.

In all forms of religions I have encountered, Christianity has to be the most ridiculous. Christianity has made Africans so narrow minded that they would rather take their last cents to the church and sleep hungry waiting for a “miracle” instead of buying a meal for themselves. They believe their local preacher' need of a car to comfortably move around spreading the gospel is greater than that of starving children just a few blocks away from the church. Everyone knows Christians are the most gullible lot on the planet. If you want to extort anyone without breaking a sweat these are the people to go to. In Kenya for instance, people have invested heavily in Christianity. You won't go a few metres in the ghetto before spotting a shack with people worshiping inside. Every corner every street, they are everywhere! The most interesting thing though is that these places with so many churches have the poorest living standards in the country.

You'd think by now they would have realized that all the praying wasn't changing anything. Blinded by their hopelessness, they keep doing it. The preacher soon makes enough money to put up a proper structure and even buy musical instruments, you know, even if he is milking his congregation dry, at least they are dancing to some good music.

If you still haven't realized, so many church sponsored TV channels are popping up in the country. Before they would just pay for airtime in one of the countries top TV stations for airtime (Remember Kanyari?) but now they do it on their own. They have TV channels fully dedicated to their businesses. They have even embraced technological changes like the use of mobile money transfer and credit cards. If you don't have any of those you can always write them a cheque.

Some politicians even decide to juggle the two professions and make even more money. Hurling insults at members of their opposing parties during the day and preaching peace and giving during the evening. One very famous female evangelist has been doing so in the country for quite some time now.

Nowadays all TV channels are full of religious content. Kids are being brainwashed into this myth every Sunday morning. Nobody has time for educational science shows anymore. All we want is salvation, not knowledge. Nobody wants knowledge.

As other nations teach their children about modern technological advances, we are busy narrating stories of how a man built a vessel so big that a pair of all the animals on earth were able to fit in or how donkeys and snakes spoke to people.

As other countries invest in major equipment and dedicate huge resources into fighting graft within their governments, our very own EACC is launching Bible study guides. Yet we always find a way to blame everyone else but ourselves.

It's time Kenyans and Africans in general woke up from this myth that is religion. Times have changed and we have been left behind. It's time to promote reasoning and logic because the rest of the world is moving and nobody will wait for us.

This is a seductive question that I am tempted to ask. What is Mike Sonko up to ? Today, I tweeted opposing Sonko's efforts to create a " Sonko rescue team " with fully fledged security cars and guns . As usual, he was praised by Kenyans who dont know Mungiki, Chingororo, MRC and other militant groups started with " Helping people " , " Private Security Wings " but later reared their ugly head and started slaughtering those who refused to comply with their set up guidelines.

What sonko is doing amounts to setting up a parallel government. I dont know who he consulted: Has the national government and county gvt failed in providing security and if it has really failed, President Uhuru should vacate that powerful seat and let Sonko lead the country.

The flamboyant senator must know that militant groups started the same way he has started his " Sonko Rescue Squad " In a few years, my guess is that the Kenyan police will be struggling to contain this group if not managed well. Looking at social media comments, some responses have gone beyond eye-rolling and scoffing. Sonko Must assure us that his " Rescue Squad " will not slaughter me tomorrow.

Sonko has been given too much by president Uhuru and it is time to take it back. I know others will verbalize their incredulity against me but time never lies. This squad is a bomb waiting to explode and it is quite time we detonate it. What Sonko is doing amounts to creating a parallel government which is unconstitutional, wrong and unacceptable.

I thank the few voices expressing dissent because in a crowd, someone has to recognize the snake and warn others. The problem with Kenyans is that our ethnic mindset guides us in everything . As a politician, you have to employ seductive political antics to survive in the hot political Jungle. We know sonko may be having " Good Intentions " but history has never lied, such private wings end up being dangerous militant groups that commit heinous crimes .
