Kenya is the Fourth Most powerful country in Africa regarding Tweeting. Kenyans love Twitter, and millions of Tweets are sent on a daily basis. Kenyans on Twitter are also known for starting Twitter Wars with other countries, and of course winning.
When CNN Referred to Kenya as "the hotbed of terror," Kenyans on Twitter roasted them till they sent an apology. That is the power of Twitter, and the platform keeps growing and becoming powerful.
There was once upon a time that bitter and sexually-frustrated feminist Betty Waitherero had attempted to usurp and assume influence over this uniquely vocal group, by imposing a logo idea, a move that was thwarted by Kenyans who saw it as an attempt by the JAP 36 Bloggers to control the narrative of Kenya’s Twittersphere.
A Few years ago, Journalists and a select few Frauds used to control this platform, dumbing down and indoctrinating Kenyans. That is why the Likes of Former Media Icon Julie Gichuru, Accused Rapist Jeff Koinange and a popular CEO who stole another man's wife managed to rope in Kenyans into #KenyansForKenya and #BringZackHome Scams. Kenyans contributed millions, but these funds were looted.
But we have seen their influence dwindle; all these frauds have been exposed by the same platform they once used to dumb-down Kenyans. It has been a revolution, To say the least.
Twitter Kenyan Opened their Account on 2nd February 2015, and according to a Tweet they made on the same day, The microblogging site promised to be a source of news, updates, and Tips. But did they really live up to what they promised?
Bindiya Shah was the '' Lead Twitter in Kenya, '' and Africa but then many complaints started arising. Kenyans especially government critics started noticing something strange- Hashtags critical of government started vanishing from Twitter.
Bindiya Shah hates publicity and despite holding such a Powerful Position, Told Twitter not to verify her account because she knew the fraud she was engaging in. Many people also complained about being blocked by her for giving suggestions or criticizing some things she held dear.
It was later discovered that in the Month of December 2015, Twitter Officials met with Kenyan Government officials and many things were agreed among them censoring Hashtags that were inciteful - I guess you know what incitement means when you interpret the term according to Jubilee Government.
Despite many complaints, Bindiya Shah, who was now deep in government never said anything apart from one day when he insisted that Kenyan Trends are based on Algorithms. Such an arrogant Bastard!
The Criticism was growing day by day. Many Kenyans raised the issue with trends being censored and Twitter had to act. Bindi was fired in the month of June 2016. What we refuse to buy is the argument that Twitter was not working with the government to kill and censure conversations.
Bindi Shah most creative input from the Twitter CSR fund was to collaborate for a wildlife show with Government propaganda Tool, Nation Media Group's NTV. This is where she used to manipulate the trends to ensure that #NTVWild trends even with 7 Tweets as other Kenyans struggled to Trend even with over 5,000 Tweets! Algorithms my Foot!
Twitter Kenya has now Deactivated their Account because of many complaints and fears that as we head toward elections, the greedy Twitter officials may be compromised to censor topics critical of the current regime.
