Covid-19: The Sad Plight Of Part time Lecturers Some part time Lecturers have written to nyakundireport.com asking for their plight to be aired so that the management of the universities can at least have mercy on them.
They term the lockdown of universities due to the Covid-19 pandemic as having cause great distress and worry to them just like everybody else, however, to add salt to injury, one said that universities seems to have wanted the shutdown so as to escape paying them their salaries.
"I had requested the university for payment long ago before the virus erupted but they simply delayed processing until a directive was issued to close the university", said one lecturer.
The bad part is that even after the university admins seemed to have gotten their wish of a lockdown, a finance manager in a local university went ahead to show the extent of their ravenous behavior when called and asked about money.
"Now I have called the finance person and the director wishing for my payment and pleading with them due to my financial situation all in vain. They last paid me in Feb 2019. I have evidence in terms of recorded conversations between me and the finance guy who also admitted that the university does not worry or care if we die in the pandemic", he said.
Most of the lecturers have responsibility that go beyond their immediate families and are in dire need of their pay. The universities should pay now ands stop these cat and mouse games. We are all in this together.
"Imagine they owe us several years payment and they would rather we die in the pandemic so that they remain with our money. Please we need to make the universities administration to pay part-time lecturers just like everyone else was ordered by the president to pay their workers so that they may face the pandemic prepared", one lecturers says.
