Rongai residents queue for water last month. The problem still persists. For three weeks last month, residents of Ongata Rongai and surrounding areas were hit by a major water crisis that pushed up the cost of the commodity. Water vendors were selling water for between Kshs. 80 and Kshs. 150 for a 30-litre jerry can. Water had not been available for months. Last week, some officials stated that the situation had been resolved but some residents say that they still don't water. There were claims Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) had cut electricity to the pumps following high bills arrears the county has.
