Seven Critically Injured Utumishi Girls Students Airlifted to Nairobi as 61 Others Discharged

Seven students injured in the deadly dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County, have been airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical treatment as authorities continue managing the aftermath of the tragedy.

According to officials, the learners were transferred to Nairobi hospitals due to the severity of their injuries following the fire that killed 16 students in the early hours of Thursday.

At the same time, 61 other students who sustained minor injuries during the incident have since been treated and discharged from various hospitals.

Government officials said medical teams remain on high alert as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.

The blaze broke out while students were asleep inside one of the school dormitories, triggering panic and raising fresh concerns over safety standards in boarding schools across the country.
