I am a fourth year student in this institution but trust me, there is less that I can brag about and more complains. I am not satisfied after all the amount my parent pays to the school, at this level as a student I have about 15 missing marks from first year where I have only marks for 4 units and I did about 8 units, there is no difference between me and someone who has never sat for examinations. What am I supposed to tell my parent who has paid fees and does not see any marks? The campus is always on track to deal with those who have not cleared fees before sitting for the exams but wait until you go asking for your marks, it never feels like it's your right, you will strain looking for the marks in departments and if you don't get them you won't graduate.
I have seen the outgoing students suffer for what is theirs, someone is sleeping on the job but students do not have a say in this. "Kugraduate MMUST ni ngumu kushinda kusoma" is the term the students use. I don't even know what my score is all these years I have been in school.
There is this department known as LBB 101, this is where the marks are uploaded first before you can get them in the student portal, if you try going to that room towards the end of the year asking for your marks, you will be told, we are dealing with those graduating first, try in January." then it will be "it's too early". What are we supposed to do? This means you complete campus and then you come back, pay a lodging for one or two weeks, go to the campus daily, looking for lecturers and lining up at the department for what was not your mistake and at the end of the day still do not be shocked if you leave without those marks, miss in the graduation list, fail to graduate and move a step backward because you don't have a degree.
University is very expensive, parents sell properties for their children to get to this level and as a society, it a sense of pride to have learners at this level. Let the money that is strained for be worth it. Some things end up depressing the learners, instead of studying the advanced theories we meet in campus, we are thinking about the marks and how we will get them. Not even how we will pass but if marks will appear at the end of the course work, this is not fair Masinde Muliro University. Let the lecturers mark and submit and then the department to upload the marks. Simple!
