Cord leader Raila Odinga almost cancelled a trip to Kilifi county recently for fear of being heckled by pro-Kilifi North MP Gedion Mung’aro supporters. Sources say, the Cord leader who had spent the night in Mombasa on October 2 and was scheduled to attend the burial of former Bahari MP Benedict Gunda at Kizingo in Kilifi the following morning Oct 3 was shocked when a number of Coast Cord legislators snubbed his breakfast meeting at Wild Waters. The Cord leader had reportedly hoped to meet the legislators to agree on a common stand and speeches at the funeral on the proposed Community Land Bill 2015, which is pending at the National Assembly. And to show that all was not well for the Cord leader at the Coast, the previous evening, his reception at the Moi International Airport, Mombasa was uncharacteristically low key with only two Mombasa MPs Rashid Bedzimba(Kisauni) and Mishi Mboko(women rep) going to receive him. But even as the Cord leader tried to come to terms with how quickly things are turning against him at the Coast, where he has for over a decade enjoyed unparalleled political support, other reports tricked in to the effect that leaflets critical of his leadership were in circulation at the burial function.
