KMTC Admissions Portal The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has come under fire for allegedly allowing over 300,000 students to make payments of Ksh2,022 for applications, despite only being able to accommodate 60,000 students.
The allegations suggest that KMTC is engaging in a money-minting business by accepting payments from students who have little chance of being admitted.
According to a source, the KMTC system is cognizant of the number of spaces available for each course and should notify students if a course is full before they submit their application. "Why would Kenya Medical Training College allow over 300,000 students, even those from humble backgrounds, to make payment of Ksh2,022 and allow their applications to go through while in their sense they know they will only take 60,000 students?" the disgruntled source asked.
The allegations have caused concern among students, many of whom have reportedly made multiple unsuccessful applications, each time paying the Ksh2,022 fee. "I have applied for the same course four times now and have not been successful. It is frustrating and a waste of money," one student, who wished to remain anonymous, informed us.
The allegations come at a time when the cost of education in Kenya has become a major concern for many students and their families.
The high cost of education, coupled with limited opportunities for employment after graduation, has led to frustration among young people in Kenya.
KMTC should provide a fair and transparent admissions process that does not take advantage of students' financial struggles.
