Caption: St Mary's Sportsview Academy's main gate A popular private primary school within Kasarani, Nairobi County has been exposed for running a massive extortion racket that threatens to drain the pockets of helpless parents.
Speaking exclusively to nyakundireport.com , one of the distraught victims exposed how the quick-witted management at St Mary's Sportsview Academy has turned their students into a cash cow by demanding exorbitant amounts of money in the name of school fees.
Through a message forwarded to our news desk on Friday, 25th February 2022, the frustrated parent sadly narrated how his daughter, alongside a group of other students, were recently locked up in a detention hall over the meagre unremitted balance of Sh5,000.
They spent the entire day without attending class.
The incident occurred despite him having already made an initial payment in excess of Sh30,000 with a pledge of clearing the rest by the end of the term.
But to his surprise, the young girl was rudely denied a chance to sit her end of year examinations; an integral requirement for progression to the next class. "Hi Cyprian, so there is a school here in Kasarani called St Mary's Sportsview Academy. These guys are just after parents' money, very inhuman when it comes to handling pupils. Imagine with these tough times they can't understand a parent even if you request for more time to pay fees. Whenever there are some arrears, pupils whose fees are in arrears are never allowed in class! They are taken to a 'detention' hall where they stay for the entire day without attending any class. So today they started exams and my daughter was taken to the same hall due to fees balance of 5k. Mark you I had already paid 31k for this term! How can 5k make them not allow a pupil to sit her end year exams? I requested them that they give me till end of this month which is next week Tuesday to clear the balance and they are adamant that the balance has to be paid before she sits for her end year exams," he laments. Apart from this broad daylight oppression, the parent further revealed that the administration has made it practically impossible for any of them to air out their frustrations.
In the school's official WhatsApp group, only designated administrators have been granted the ability to send out or comment on messages. "They have a WhatsApp group for parents and teachers and they only allowed admins who are the teachers to send messages. Parents are just there on the receiving end," he adds. On top of it all, parents at St Mary's Sportsview Academy are forced to personally procure expensive textbooks which the school has failed to provide for their children. "In this school a parent buys over 30 textbooks," he added, attached with the document embedded below. GRADE 2 BOOKLIST The parents are now calling for intervention from the government's as well as the Kenya Private Schools Association (KEPSA) in order to tame the rogue school.
