Speaker Moses Wetang'ula National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has implored opposition leaders to exercise caution when making claims of election rigging in the upcoming presidential election on August 9, 2022. "Kenyans are preoccupied with pressing economic issues and it is imperative that we allow the government to focus on addressing these concerns," Wetang'ula said.
In a recent statement, he emphasized that leaders who claim that Azimio leader Raila Odinga defeated President William Ruto should give the government space to serve the needs of the people.
" We must look to the future and tackle the challenges of today. We are facing food and water shortages, and we must increase farmer productivity," he added.
Wetang'ula also urged clergy to pray for the country and make contributions to improve the well-being of Kenyans. "Please continue to pray for our nation. We did not resort to violence after the last elections and those who were dissatisfied took the matter to court where it was resolved," he explained.
The Speaker made these comments during the episcopal ordination of Bishop Henry Juma Odonya of the Catholic Diocese of Kitale.
He urged all sides to come together and work towards a peaceful and prosperous future for Kenya, instead of dwelling on past election controversies. "We need to move forward as a nation and put the interests of our people first," he said.
