Kenyans have come to realize that the company is ripping them off, bringing up the splitting of Safaricom debate that the company spent millions to kill.

Here is a hack, as detailed by the Twitter user. Via Brian Njenga on Twitter I finally cracked Safaricom 's internet limiting problem. Not sure about everyone else but if you use a Safaricom Fiber router it tends to disconnect other devices when one device is downloading or maybe when you're on Netflix via TV # thread What Safaricom did was to partner with Huawei to build routers suiting their business needs. If you pay for anything less than 20mbps(unrealistic for home use unless you're a full time gamer) you're router allocates all available bandwidth the device downloading content

The solution to avoid this is by activating Quality Of Service packet switching aka rate limiting on your router which Safaricom has intentionally removed from the admin panel so that whenever you call them they'll tell you to upgrade your package

While in actual sense you already have enough bandwidth it's just been managed wrong

To prove my theory, I got a separate router which supports QOS and connected it with the saf router via ethernet then assigned it a dynamic IP and setup QOS on the new router and voilà! Everything works smoothly now. I'm updating xcode which is around 6gb ‏

Running updates on my phone, YouTube music and I'm still running a consuming data from AWS for my serverless app

Here's the set-up I confirmed with them about using your own router back in Feb after been annoyed by their never ending excuses
