President Ruto jokes about a network glitch during a youth forum in Kakamega, teasing his security team while launching the Nyota Programme for young Kenyans. The first six months will involve training under a master craftsperson, with NITA assessing their skills and issuing certificates. The second six months will be an apprenticeship, during which they will learn while working. Ruto also said the program will help skilled youth without formal papers to get certified, with all costs covered by the government. Network Problem Causes Light Moment While explaining how youth could apply by using a USSD code, Ruto was told there was no network in the area. While sharing a USSD code for youth to apply to the program, Ruto was told there was no network in the area. “Dial 254#… go to Nyota. Oh, no network today? I think some of my people here have a habit of shutting it down. Where are they?” he joked. Moments after he raised the issue, the network returned, allowing people to access the application code. “Is it back? Are we good? Very good,” Ruto said. He also revealed that 180,000 people had already applied for the programme.
