Workers at Roadtainers Limited, a logistics company based in Mombasa, are raising alarm over what they describe as targeted layoffs of staff who joined a workers' union.
According to an employee who spoke to us anonymously, the company has begun terminating contracts under the pretext of "reduced workload" but only for those affiliated with the union. Employees claim the management at Roadtainers Mombasa is targeting union members for termination while retaining non-unionized staff.
Those who did not join the union have reportedly been retained, sparking accusations of union busting and unfair labour practices.
The affected workers are now appealing for intervention and public pressure, saying the company's move undermines their right to organize and collectively bargain as protected under Kenya’s labour laws.
The incident adds to growing concerns about employer retaliation against unionized workers in the country’s private sector. "Hi Nyakundi.
