Rival gangs clashing again at Riverside

Groups from Huruma and Kiamaiko clashed on Monday afternoon, causing major traffic delays on Outer Ring Road. This happened just a few days after similar chaos was reported on Thursday, July 24. Crowds blocked the road with barricades, stopping vehicles from using the busy highway that connects Thika Road to the Eastern Bypass. Clashes between rival groups along Outering Road. The fighting mostly happened between Allsops and the Kariobangi Roundabout and later spread toward the Riverside area as police stepped in to try and stop it. Things got more intense when police tried to break up the groups, leading to more fights between them and the youth. While it’s still not confirmed why the clashes started, some reports say the two groups are fighting over who controls a bus stop in Kariobangi. Around 4pm, a local security alert warned drivers about the traffic jam caused by the clashes between the Huruma and Kiamaiko groups. Drivers were advised to avoid Outer Ring Road and use other roads like Jogoo Road or the Eastern Bypass while police tried to calm things down. This isn’t the first time it’s happened. For about a week, there have been rising tensions. Last week, a video showed youth lighting fires on the same road. On the afternoon of Thursday, July 24, tensions were still high, and more anti-riot police were called in. Some witnesses said the fights may have started after a suspected thief was killed by a mob in Kiamaiko. That incident sparked protests from part of the local community, who then took to the streets to express their anger.
