Speaking on Citizen TV show JKLive, the Retired Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) cleric Timothy Njoya covered various topics ranging from the corruption, handshake, gay rights, religion, and referendum.
On corruption, Njoya said, 'The president is not helpless, he lacks the will and the tools to work; which are available to him if he wants'. He also suggested that those engaging in corruption should face the death penalty. This he noted would scare others from engaging in it. “If Uhuru Kenyatta’s father hanged the poor for robbing the rich why can’t he (Uhuru) do the same; hang a few for robbing the poor” - Rev. Timothy Njoya Dr. Njoya further lamented the runaway corruption stating that the country is facing a dire crisis. He pointed out the class struggle by saying that Kenya does not have the cohesive spirit of a nation but is rather ‘a market owned by a fellowship of the rich with the rich, who impoverish the already impoverished’.
Despite the widespread corruption, the judges only ‘jail the poor thieves and petty criminals’, because they cannot afford to buy a judge.
Njoya observed that, "Crime in Kenya is a profiteering business by lawyers and judges…they have not jailed anybody, for being a thief, since Uhuru came into power"
On religion, Dr. Njoya noted the proliferation of churches that adds little value to the lives of congregants and called for regulation of religions, ‘because they are too many and they are too evil’.
On the question, ‘has the church in general let Kenyan down? ‘He agreed that the church has failed in its mandate to provide the moral compass to the country. He noted that the church leaders have exchanged ‘God for money’.
On ‘the handshake’ between ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, Njoya argued that it is a temporary truce.
When asked by Jeff Koinange, the host of #JKLive to categorically state his stand on gay rights. The reverend didn’t commit to a no or a yes answer, but rather insisted that ‘fundamental and basic human rights cannot be denied to anybody’.
The retired cleric defended his decision to preside over the funeral ceremony of slain Dandora-based human rights activist Caroline Mwatha Achieng'.
Njoya, expressing doubt over the story that Ms. Mwatha had died while procuring abortion, said, her family needed 'compassion and care'.
