Last week but one I also got conned 8,010. I was searching for a Bedsitter and I got very attractive photos of one in Bellevue. When I called the number provided in the advert for the house, Stephen Kalwe( 0716 282234), he directed me to an old man by the name pastor Muema(0704 115864/ 0730691648), whom he asked me to pay deposit to secure the house as it was On demand. I called him and he said there was a lady who had promised to pay deposit but had not yet sent So he said if I pay deposit first I would have the house and we agreed that I would go to see it early next day. He in fact said that if the house did not meet my expectations he would refund me the money. So I first sent Sh5k as we had agreed.
And when I called to confirm receipt he asked me to send make it Sh7k,the full deposit. So I paid Sh2,010. I called again to ask if he had received and so he started telling me that he would provide a pick up to carry my stuff at Sh2k and also said that the lady had paid deposit plus rent of Sh15k to his bank account and since it was late he had no access to the bank and so he needed to top up cash so that he could refund the lady Via Mpesa. He asked me to send him another Sh7k but I told him I didn’t have More money at the moment since I’m a student. I told him I would hustle to get the rest of the money before moving in. In two weeks time. After trying hard to persuade me by even asking me to borrow from friends, I sent him 1k making the total Sh8,010.
When I again call to confirm receipt he asks for more money from me. So I decided to call the young man who had referred me to him. When I called he said the Mzee is old and doesn’t understand I just forgive him. And he assured me that he had written me a receipt confirming the house was mine but then I needed to add Sh2k for the Mzee to refund the lady. I told him I didn’t have more money. So he threatened that if I didn’t send he would refund my money! We agreed on refund and I hanged up. An hour passed without any refund. When I called all the numbers were user busy all that evening.
The following day the old man called me asking for more money. I asked him why he went silent on me, yet I was suppose to go see the house on that day. He said “ Msichana wangu nilikuwa Maombi” Ati he was doing prayers and fasting lool?.
He insisted on me sending the rest of the amount and I said I had cash and I was on my way to see the house.he asked that I deposit the cash in Mpesa and send. So I told him to wait for me to find an Mpesa since I was in a mat. He kept calling and I told him I had gotten abit busy but he should show me the house. He ignored about showing me the house but insisted on the money.He kept calling and I decided to ignore. The following day I called to ask for pick up. He still asked for money and this time 9k together with transaction costs.
I then stopped calling him and up to today he has never called again.
I was so desperate to get a house since it was urgent for me to move out of my auntie’s place.
I only had Sh10k all of which were deposits sent by clients for cakes as my hustle is baking. I felt so bad that I had lost Sh8k and had no stock to produce the orders. I had to borrow money from family?. I’m very broke and with debts coz of these conmen!
I hope someone had told me people con in that manner? I’m sharing hoping someone will see this and never fall in such a trap.
