Lawyer Assa Nyakundi is being detained by police after he accidentally shot his son in the chest, this evening.
The lawyer and his son were coming from church, as they neared his house, he reached on the back seat to take his pistol from a pouch.
The gun went off killing his son, who was sitting in the back seat, instantly.
Mr. Nyakundi surrendered to police immediately thereafter.
He said the son was pronounced dead on arrival at the Aga Khan University Hospital where he took him after the incident.
The police said they have visited the scene of the crime near the Judicial Training Institute in Muthaiga North and the Aga Khan University Hospital.
“The said firearm loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm bullets and the m/v have been kept as exhibits,” said the police.
The body of the deceased is at Aga Khan University Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Who is Assa Nyakundi Laywer Nyakundi is a partner in Nyakundi and Company Advocates.
The lawyer is currently representing the Former senior Nyeri Magistrate Pauline Omungala, who is accused of killing her Lawyer husband Robert Chesang in Lukenya, Machakos county.
In 2018, he accused magistrate Douglas Ogoti and a high court judge of killing former Nairobi Town Clerk John Gakuo, by denying him bail. Gakuo had been jailed for 3 years for the cemetery scandal which saw wananchi lose Kshs. 283 million.
He represented the corrupt Televangelist James Ng'ang'a in the case where Ng'ang'a had killed a woman through 'drunk' driving in 2015.
In 2015, the then Law Society of Kenya (LSK) CEO Apollo Mboya had reported him to the Muthangari police station over a threatening text. This was civil case 328 of 2015.
That time it was reported that Nyakundi was among 19 lawyers whose practising certificates were recalled by the judiciary.
He was also accused of issuing bouncing cheques to LSK for membership payments.
