Pressure is mounting on the Kenyan investigative agencies to prosecute Richard Ngatia, who now serves as the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Chairman.
Ngatia is best known for his ownership of the Galileo Lounge in Nairobi, a premier entertainment joint on Waiyaki Way, which has, uncharacteristically, maintained consistently high standards for years.
However, investigation agencies have complained about being blocked by powerful forces at the statehouse any time they attempt to take action against Richard Ngatia.
The link of Megascope Healthcare (K) Ltd to the sale of Jack Ma’s COVID-19 pandemic donations were also broadcasted by NTV Investigates’s investigative report by NTV reporter Dennis Okari.
In March 2020, Jack Ma said that his foundation would donate 20,000 coronavirus test kits, 100,000 masks, 1,000 medical use protective suits and face shields to each of the 54 African countries among them Kenya.
Mr Jack Ma also pledged 100 million yuan ($14.5 million) towards the development of a vaccine in late January. And earlier in March, the billionaire donated a further $2.15 million to the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Australia, again to develop a vaccine.
It is highly suspected that the same donations that were sold out were re-supplied to KEMSA, with the companies making double profits from the sales and Richard Ngatia as the mastermind.
This is not the first time pressure is mounting for Richard Ngatia to be prosecuted. The Uhuru Kenyatta’s ally and owner of Megascope was also at the centre of a multi-billion Ministry of Health tenders. The question Kenyans are asking themselves now is how powerful and influential is Richard Ngatia within the corridors of the Ministry of Health and State House? This picture has the answers on who is protecting him. According to a Senate Health Committee report , Ngatia’s firm Megascope Health Ltd received huge payments from the leasing of medical kits to the tune of 63 billion shillings.
The damning report gave a scathing report on the Ministry of Health for running a criminal enterprise and ordered the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate, something they have been unable to do because Ngatia is very protected.
Investigators that have anonymously spoken to us claim that Ngatia may be using his wife to launder his proceeds of crime. At one time, the wife posted a video on social media doing expensive shopping leading to condemnation from Kenyans. In its second review of the programme, the IMF said with revelations of widespread breaking of procurement laws, the government had to speedily investigate and prosecute those who were responsible for looting of public funds at the medical agency.
IMF believes real scammers like Richard Ngatia are being spared because they are acting for powerful individuals at the Statehouse.
