This afternoon, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has announced that the mission to recover over 7.2 billion worth of loans owed by 74,000 defaulters.

The crackdown is set to start immediately and employers are expected to help with the process of tracking down defaulters.

“We are also going to partner with our law enforcement agencies to track down those holding jobs and yet are reluctant to stand up to be counted as responsible and patriotic citizens who honour their debts,” said Amina.

Those living abroad will also not be spared. According to HELB Chief Executive Charles Ringera, the board will partner with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to track down defaulters living in the diaspora.

So if you are a HELB loan defaulter, you better lace up, the police are coming for you.
