The attacker struck the officer with a sharp object and snatched his firearm, before disappearing into the darkness towards Eldoret GK prison.
The officer, who works for the Uasin Gishu County Government, is assigned to the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit Ainabkoi sub-county.
He suffered injuries to the back of his head, forehead, tongue, and left kneecap.
His colleagues who arrived on the scene said that the officer was in a state of shock and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Police are deeply concerned that the weapon might fall into the wrong hands and be used to commit violent crimes, putting innocent lives at risk.
