Members of staff at the Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of Ombudsman) have filed an anonymous petition and submitted it to Parliament, calling for the removal of lawyer Amollo Otiende, for corruption, high-handedness, nepotism and the likes, a move that is likely to send Amollo home soon.
Amollo has been accused of running the Ombudsman Office like his private property, influencing appointments of staff based on patronage and not merit. We have consistently said that Kenya is being finished by those that shun merit and instead give jobs and positions to cronies, a vice that's rampant in every sector.
Amollo apparently uses the office budget to travel unnecessarily to Kisumu every weekend, where its suspected that he has been campaigning for the seat of Member of Parliament in Rarieda, his home area. He uses these numerous trips to defraud the Commission off money under the pretext of imprest.
The same character Otiende has been accused of using an office staff member, to do his thesis as he is pursuing a PHD at the University of Cape Town, in what could be a case of intellectual-dishonesty, similar to how Mutahi Ngunyi of the “tyranny of numbers” fame deceived Kenyans that he has complete his doctorate degree.
Amollo is so petty, that he has influenced policy to ensure that he's the only one who gets lunch allowance, as the rest are not entitled to it. He has also declined to delegate roles and assignments to heads of departments, opting instead to supervise even the most menial of assignments. Meaning that he’s the only one who travels for official meetings both locally and abroad.
The petitioners, therefore, petitioned parliament to commence the process of removing Mr Otiende Amollo from office in line with Article 251 of the Constitution, as well as the Commission on Administrative Justice Act. This is meant to protect the integrity of the Commission, as well as contribute to the restoration of the rule of law in the country.
