Homabay County Women Representative Gladys Wanga and other women in Kisumu for the Embrace Mama Initiative
Embrace Initiative by women politicians in Kenya seeks to protect, safeguard and advance the gains of women through the constitution, reforms and policy implementation.
It focuses mostly on the the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that came out of the the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.
Embrace has been doing rounds in counties sharing the message of peace. Yesterday, Embrace was in Kisumu Town, Kisumu County.
Kisumu bore a lot of Police brutality before and after the 2017 elections, which saw a few months old baby Pendo clobbered to death.
Justice has never been done for baby Pendo and for the many in Nyanza; and by extension Luos in Kenya.
Here below, out opinion writer today reminded us that justice should and must exist where peace is being preached.

Kindly allow me to use your media to talk about this new group called Mama Embrace.
First and foremost these great ladies should wear National colours. White has only meaning when it means peace in the National colours. And peace without social justice is dead peace. It is like a festering boil that could suppurate any time.
Let us see you in National colours and from homemade garments. Made by the Ramogi tailors somewhere in Kenyatta Market or better still...I wish when you went to Kisumu you went to launch a factory for making garments of national colours using Kisumu Cotton Millers (KICOMI) cotton materials..by the way is it still kicking?

This would afford jobs to seasoned tailors like the Kenyatta Market ones and to upcoming ones from our Technical institutes. The farmers would revive cotton farming.
Then for head gear let those who know how to make those fine Oginga Odinga and Jomo Kenyatta caps make them with national colours. Glamorous. And jobs for many.
What we need to embrace is not mere visits to our counties. We need to see your imprints from your works not words. Go to Turkana County with food for hungry kids and plant ten thousand trees each and let the county employ young people to tend the trees.
Otherwise it defeats simple logic when you appear in white one wear only made by Marks and Spencers and others, and then addressing hungry wananchi who do not know where to take their sick with pneumonia etc.
When you yourself are well fed as is evident from the well sought African Mama Physique most of you display. How can you embrace such? But if you influence the leadership of this land to give social justice, all Kenyans will embrace each other naturally.
They wont care about political parties because they don't aim to be political leaders. They only want their basic rights first and foremost. Let them have reasonable access to the sea and they will catch their fish with ease.
That is the essence of peaceful coexistence of all Kenyans.
Meanwhile, we would love to see more hands at work and less time to talk. There is time for everything. So join the other slogan groups and go back to wananchi.
