Lynn Kesh, who died mysteriously in the swimming pool of Queens Cottages in Watamu in the company of her sponsor The “Sponsor Culture” has firmly gained root in Kenya, fuelled by media functionaries who have come to project it as a way of life for young ladies who have grand aspirations and nothing else to offer apart from their looks.
In December, a family of 4 ladies perished along Mombasa Road, as the car they were driving was involved in an accident. The lady was heading down to the Coast to visit her sponsor, said to be a wealthy tenderpreneur who has made a lot of money under the Jubilee wave of corruption.
The lady who was driving the car was Patricia Nduta and the rest were the sisters. An entire family had agreed to “pimp” their daughter/sister to a sponsor in exchange for cash and other benefits like trips and holidays. That is how embedded this immoral culture is in this country. People are no longer hiding this fact. Even parents are embracing it.
Social media is awash with ladies who are flaunting lifestyles they clearly can't afford. Instagram in particular is where obscure characters like Amber Ray have been able to show-off her earthly belongings without showing her source of income.
The subliminal messaging to her peers is that “the end justifies the means” .
Even before the first month of the year is over, another incident has shocked the Coastal region of Watamu, after another death occurred over the weekend.
Lynn Kesh (pictured on top) drowned in a swimming pool located at a private residence called The Queens Cottages in Watamu. She was in the company of her sponsor, said to be a manager at NIC Bank in Watamu.
According to his statement, the sponsor says he called her at 7pm where he was partying with friends and immediately she reached she decided to swim. How she drowned, they claim they don't know. Yet she didn't have her swimming costume on. This is the sponsor said to be in the company of Lynn Kesh at the time of her death. Police were not called to the facility but instead the body was taken to Star Mortuary Malindi where parents to the lady were informed to come collect the body. She hailed from Meru.
Friends of the lady are now pleading with blogger Cyprian Nyakundi to pursue the matter so as to get justice. The police should have by now acquired the CCTV footage of the facility, and witness statements from all the people who were there that day.
And even as we call on sponsors to stop precipitating deaths of young girls, we call on the ladies with big mouths like Caroline Mutoko and Ciku Muiruri to condemn the culture that they themselves brought about, of young ladies sleeping with older men in exchange for financial recompense.
Caroline Mutoko, Ciku Muiruri, Sheila Mwanyigha, and all the other “know your worth” , “don't settle for less” women must take responsibility for enabling this vice and killing many young innocent girls who were only following their advise.
