Despite the fact that there are discrepancies in the manner in which Gabriel Komora has managed to remain as CEO of Sports Kenya in an “acting” capacity for over three and a half years, the main who hails from Coastal Kenya, together with his network of contacts is still pursuing the remainder of the money.
Due to the secrecy surrounding this particular project, Gabriel Komora together with Tender Committee Chairman Wilberforce Chebet and Finance Director Francis Githaiga, could be the only individuals aware of the availability of those funds.

A further Kshs. 1 million was used to bribe Members of Parliament from the Kisii community, so as they could blackmail former Prime Minister Raila Odinga into prevailing upon Tom Alila and delegates from Nyanza region, into voting for Nyamweya.
Tom Alila, who had earlier expressed interest in Nyamweya’s seat, maintains close relations with Raila Odinga, but of late has been warming up to new kid on the football block Nick Mwendwa.
Back to the football tender, the only other officials who may have had a clue about the presence of the $3million are former Sports Minister Hon. Ababu Namwamba and his Permanent Secretary James Waweru. Waweru who was a former Nairobi Provincial Commissioner and a member of Kibaki’s inner-circle, made it possible for the fast-track of the Cabinet paper, together with the then Statehouse Comptroller Hyslop Ipu.
The money has operated as Gabriel Komora’s private slush-fund, which he has used to incur dubious expenses and for entertaining the cabal of British conmen, operating under the banner of OpenSide Sports.
OpenSide Sports fronted by a Kenyan living in London named Kenneth Mathiiu, recently partnered with Pewin Motors owner Mr. Peter Kirigua and Icon Sports Marketing operated by former Sports Kenya CEO Sam Mwai. OpenSide had promised to facilitate EPL giants Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund play an international match in Nairobi, for the purposes of promoting sports and tourism.
As fate would have it, the entire project turned out to be a fraud, and under Gabriel Komora’s stewardship, Sports Kenya lost close to a million dollars paying for, and entertaining ghost operatives.
Komora and his network is now said to be eyeing the remaining $2million, as a retirement gift for themselves since they are said to be leaving office soon.
Former Statehouse Comptroller Hyslop Ipu was also revealed to be the brother to Gabriel Komora, and is said to be behind the unusual scenario where his younger brother remained in an acting capacity as CEO of a Government parastatal withouth being confirmed, or his position advertised.
As it stands, Gabriel Komora is now going full throttle and hopes to announce the consortium led by Pewin Motors, as winners of the bid this week.
