Sport Pesa bribed Sports Minister Hassan Wario and Sports Kenya CEO Gordon Oluoch, to allow them to run a national sports lottery. The concept of a lottery was envisioned in the Sports Act of 2013, which was supposed to be overseen by a Board of Trustee's, and which would have funded Kenya's Sporting activities.
But the idea was hijacked by a private company Sport Pesa, who are reaping massive profits which are supposed to be channeled into building sports facilities, infrastructure, and funding National Teams.
Former Nairobi Mayor Dick Wathika who died of HIV, was a member of the Betting Control and Licensing Board, where he was able to fast-track the licensing of Sport Pesa without due-diligence, after being co-opted as a director and given shares in the betting outfit.
His wife has inherited his shares and is now raking in massive profits, together with serial womaniser and supporter/financier of Nairobi prostitutes Paul Ndungu.
