Three weeks ago we highlighted how a gang associated with violence -loving former Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rashid Echesa had started killing people a few weeks after his sacking.
Today, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has ordered police to round up the gangs and stop the killings.
Although this has taken too long to come by, it is welcome relief to the residents in and around Mumias areas.
More than ten people have lost their lives.
In Kenya, we know that politicians from either side of the political divide have connections with gangs, that come handy during electoral contests.

Residents of Matungu Sub County in Mumias are living in fear after the 42 brothers gang killed three people.
The daring killings come after a security and peace-building meeting organised by the area police.
The leaders of the gang are known as Otini and Abu.
Residents associate the gang with sacked Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rashid Echesa.
Nine months ago, Echesa was on the spot after the current Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala convoy was attacked and shot at in Matungu. Eshesa and Malala had had a bitter disagreement a few hours earlier.
The attackers, mostly from the 42 Brothers gang, were chanting pro-Echesa slogans. Echesa however, denied that the attackers were associated with him, dismissing the stories as fake news.
Recently, Echesa and Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi nearly exchanged blows at the Kisumu International Airport.
