[ad_1] 15 Buried Alive In Massive Landslide - Kenyans.co.ke Skip to main content The scene of the West Pokot landslide on Saturday, November 13. File At least 15 people are said to have been buried alive in freak landslides that have hit the Nyarkulian and Parua villages in West Pokot county. The death and destruction to the two wards have been occasioned by heavy rains that have been continuously pounding the area. Apollo Okello , the area county commissioner, confirmed the incident to Kenyans.co.ke, stating that he has received reports of landslides in four different areas of the county with unconfirmed fatalities. The road between Parua and Ortum has been rendered impassable by the landslide. "I'm also on my way to where I have been told a bridge has been swept but information reaching me from Tamkal in Pokot central is that seven people have been confirmed dead, but there are also landslides in Parua, Gikom, and Nyarkulian," he stated.

He also stated that Red Cross officials are already on the ground with a view to mitigating the disaster.

Reports from the ground also indicate that the landslide has rendered the road between Ortum and Parua impassable after River Murunya burst its banks and swept away a bridge connecting the two regions.

Some of the casualties have been taken to the Kapenguria County Teaching and Referral Hospital .

Recovery efforts are still ongoing with fears that there could be more people trapped underneath the rubble. More to follow... Kenyans.co.ke   ©     All Rights Reserved [ad_2] Source link
