Maurice Wasonga appeared before Kisumu’s Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Agutu for the mention of his case today.
He was charged with four counts of impersonating a public officer and obtaining money by false pretense.
The charge sheet stated that on April 24, 2017, within Kisumu Central Sub County in Kisumu County, he impersonated Ms Omamo and falsely presented himself to be a person employed in public service and tried to sell a government motor vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Defence.

Maurice Wasonga appeared before Kisumu’s Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Agutu for the mention of his case today. He was charged with four counts of impersonating a public officer and obtaining money by false pretense. The charge sheet stated that on April 24, 2017, within Kisumu Central Sub County in Kisumu County, he impersonated Ms Omamo and falsely presented himself to be a person employed in public service and tried to sell a government motor vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Defence. He is accused of having pretended that he was disposing off the vehicle at Sh800,000 on behalf of the cabinet secretary. It is alleged that on that particular day, within Kisumu County together with his friends, he obtained Sh800, 000 from Bishop David Hellingtone by selling him a vehicle from the Kenya Defence. Wasonga together with his friends pretended that they were employed in the public service under the department of defence hence were in the position of selling the vehicle.
On February 16, 2018, within Kisumu Central, he again impersonated CS Omamo and claimed that he was employed in the public service in the defence ministry whereas he was not an employee of any public service office. On February 22, 2018, Wasonga obtained Sh.270, 430 from a man named Nyongesa Khisa after selling him a motor vehicle belonging to the Kenya Defence Forces.
It is said that the accused person had been taking advantage, creating fake documents to con people. Wasonga was arrested on August 30 where he was first charged in court on September 5 before Chief Magistrate Julius Nga’arng’ar. He denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh300, 000 plus one surety of similar amount.
