ANC Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford- Kenya Leader Senator Moses Wetang'ula will meet opinion leaders at the residence of Kimilili MP Chris Wamalwa in efforts to forge unity in the Luhya nation ahead of 2022 polls.
But Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya are also leading another faction of Luhya politicians to meet elders.
Having parallel meetings to achieve the same objective is an open show case of rivalry in the region that is rich in votes but but never speak in one voice at the ballot.
Mudavadi has not left Nairobi for over three months and the Kitale meeting will be his first but is likely to be followed by a series of others in Kakamega and Busia this weekend.
The former vice president will also visit the ANC party office in Kakamega which was torched by arsonists by arsonists last week.
"We are strongly behind Mudavadi and support the unity between him and Ford Kenya leader Wetang'ula," said Lugari MP Ayub Savula.
Over 15 members of parliament from Western are attending a rival meeting at Wamalwa's home in Kitale.
CS Eugene upon arrival at Kitale town, took a tour with Oparanya before the two leaders proceeded to Kitale Technical College to meet the elders.
Wamalwa and Oparanya were endorsed at a meeting held at the home of Cotu boss Francis Atwoli two months ago to spear Luhya political affairs.
They also recieved endorsements by some leaders at the meeting to not only champion unity but also to pursue development programmes with the government.
The growing rivalry between the two factions is expected to steam up political activities in the western region where DP William Ruto has been making inroads ahead of 2022.
ODM leader Raila Odinga has over the time bagged over 70% of the region's vote and that must be the reason he is sticking closer Mzee Atwoli for a possible miracle in 2022.
Mudavadi and Wetangula have dwindling political influence and cannot necessarily be relied on to tap the region's vote as Oparanya and Wamalwa keep tightening the grip in mulembe nation.
Last saturday Oparanya and Wamalwa led another meeting in Kakamega town.
