On Wednesday evening, news emerged that a servant in former Cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae's house has gone missing after Sh5 million disappeared from the politician's Nairobi home. The woman identified by police as Lillian Maina is said to have taken the money was from a safe in the bedroom of one of Mr Nyachae's wives, Grace Wamuyu who had left the money in the house as she travelled to the UK to visit the ailing Nyachae. To the surprise of many, the housegirl has now received plaudits from Kenyans across social media networks. It all started when Kenyan blogger Cyprian Nyakundi sent a post saying “I commend the house-help that vanished with Ksh. 5 Million belonging to Nyachae's wife. Who keeps all that money under her bed in these tough economic times? Anyways that money was looted from taxpayers and it will now circulate in the economy, not staying under the bed!” Comments started flowing in immediately with Kenyans congratulating her for her efforts to circulate the idle money. On Facebook, Kevoh Wanjohi said, “I have never agreed with nyakundi but on this we are much together... You reasoned economically.” Peetah Wanza said “I commend the house help too, I hope they never catch her because it seems our house helps are doing a good job in recovering looted public funds compared to EACC” Murimi Muchiri said “I STAND WITH YOU MR PRESIDENT. that house girl is working more than DPP” Flexoh Kidaranga said “The house help didn't steal she only recovered...” Joan Atima said “That's a good retirement package for the housemaid” Jepkelat Maritim was of the opinion that “That girl should be recruited into criminal investigation department!!” Here are some reactions from Twitter. https://twitter.com/rogue_uno/status/1057963693860929536?s=19 https://twitter.com/LydiahKinyanju4/status/1057965658351329280?s=19 https://twitter.com/ghanadavid/status/1057960814265729024?s=19 https://twitter.com/KorosHaron/status/1057966296984367107?s=19 These reactions are a clear picture that Kenyans are tired of the elites looting public funds and stashing money inside their homes as the economy continues to struggle.
