On January 28th, a tragic accident took place in the Appio district of Rome near Piazza dei Re di Roma.
A 23-year-old Kenyan-origin boy was hit and killed by a bus operating as a shuttle service to and from Fiumicino airport.
The details of the accident are still being investigated, but the incident took place near a maxi roundabout with only one traffic light, which locals have expressed concern about in the past.
Residents who witnessed the accident described it as a bus that had stopped and a black man lying in an unnatural position surrounded by people calling for help.
The young man was initially believed to be a rider but was later determined to be a pedestrian. “My God what a tragedy” Paolo L. wrote on the bulletin board of the Facebook group "Quartiere Appio-Latino-Tuscolano". Concrete interventions must follow displeasure and indignation.
On one hand, the institutions must try to stop an emergency on which it is now impossible to remain silent. On the other, anyone who drives a vehicle must understand that failure to comply with the rules can cause a tragedy.
The father of the victim, who is currently located in Kenya, is struggling to gather information about his late son from his ex-wife, who has not disclosed details about the incident or subsequent burial.
The father was unable to secure a visa at short notice and is deeply affected by the fact that his son will be buried in a foreign country against his wishes.
He wishes to have his (only) son buried in Kenya while his baby's mother could be pursuing settlements and compensation.
It has become customary for baby mothers to use innocent children as bait to emotionally wound their fathers, and this matter out to be pursued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with immediate effect.
The son is scheduled to be buried today, February 2nd.
It is our hope that the Italian Embassy in Nairobi and the Kenyan Embassy in Rome move swiftly to address this matter as no father should endure the torture and anguish being inflicted on him by his ex-wife.
