Kenyan authorities have banned international health organization Marie Stopes from offering abortion services. According to a statement by The Medical Practitioners Board (TMPB), this decision was made after extensive investigations into claims that the organization was advertising their abortion services. The Kenyan law does not allow abortion unless a mother's life is in danger.

In a response, Marie Stopes insisted that they operate within the Kenyan law and that they offer counseling before and after abortion together with post-abortion care.

KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua was quoted backing the ban and accused the previous US government of causing moral decay in Kenya by promoting abortion. A huge majority of Kenyans have expressed fear that this ban could lead to a rise in unsafe abortions in Kenya's backstreets.

The government also ordered the health organization that prides itself on being the world’s largest provider of contraception and safe abortion services to send weekly reports of all services rendered to patients for the next 60 days to ensure they are observing the ban.
