CAPTION: Newly appointed KEMSA CEO Ms Terry Kiunge Ramadhani After a stint of two acting CEOs in a span fewer than two years, the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) has finally appointed a new chief executive officer Ms Terry Kiunge Ramadhani amid a restructuring plan at the scandal-laden agency.
This fresh change will see Ms Terry Kiunge take over from John Kabuchi that was appointed in an acting capacity on December 28, 2021, following the exit of Edward Njoroge.
Mr Njoroge had also assumed the position in an acting capacity after the suspension of Jonah Manjari alongside other senior directors at the drugs agency to allow for the investigations into claims of corruption in Covid-19 procurements.
The new appointment is coming at a time the agency has been reorganising its operations in the wake of the scandal linked to the purchase of Covid-19 kits.
The authority has been undergoing a series of radical changes after being marred by procurement scandals that saw the entire staff sent home in early November and their positions declared redundant.
From a circulating memo signed by KEMSA Board Chairlady Mary Chao Mwadime, it noted that Ms Terry Kiunge's appointment takes effect from today, Thursday, 19 May 2022.
She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool and boasts of career experience spanning over 19 years.
Prior to this appointment, she served in various other strategic and leadership positions in both the private and public sectors.
This includes service to the government as a Senior Director in the Presidential Delivery Unit.
Most recently, before her resignation, Ms Terry served as a Board member of KEMSA. "Her experience spearheading the reform journey in KEMSA provided her with an in-depth knowledge of what ails KEMSA and a clear vision of what needs to be fixed," the brief reads in part.
