In an interview with K24 Digital on Wednesday, December 11, he claimed that his son had confided in him that he was transferred to Manyani after facing threats from a warden at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.

In an interview with K24 Digital on Wednesday, December 11, he claimed that his son had confided in him that he was transferred to Manyani after facing threats from a warden at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.

Julius also disclosed that since his son arrived at Manyani, he has not been eating after suspecting that his meals were compromised and he appeared distinctly frail. “I was meant to understand that since his transfer on Friday, Jowie was yet to eat. When I asked him why he had refused to have his meals, he told me that he had a gut-feeling his food was contaminated. He was in bad shape," explained the father. Jowie was transferred to the Voi-based prison on Friday, December 6, after he was reportedly found with prohibited materials while in prison.
At Manyani, the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani is allegedly isolated in a dingy room that his father described as uninhabitable.
Authorities at the Manyani prison dismissed the claims explaining that they were baseless.
His lawyer, David Ayuo, has as a result vowed to move to court to have Jowie returned to Kamiti claiming that it was tough for his legal team to access their client.
“My client’s criminal case is before a Nairobi court. Logistically, it is very hard for us — his legal team — to access him in a detention center that is 300km away from the capital city,” argued Ayuo. Jowie Irungu in court in November 2019.
