This recently became crystal clear to local residents of Belgut, in Kericho County where the greed of a road contractor handed the assignment to re-carpet a busy highway in the region left the community in utter shock.
According to social media posts published by a resident from the area, the Engineer in charge of the Kapsoit-Sondu road project is only filling up the potholes with lumps of soil instead of completely patching up the highway.
This is despite demanding a whooping Sh123 million for the job. Frustrated locals have been left in disbelief given the procedure is something they frequently do for free and has proven ineffective especially when it heavily rains.
The contractor is said to be acting under the blessings of two area Members of Parliament who have been turning a blind eye to the tweet.
Ironically, Belgut MP Nelson Koech and his Sigowet counterpart Bernard Kisperenget both use the road to commute home. "A tender of Sh. 123 million was won by an "Engineer" to repair Kapsoit-Sondu road of 33km pothole-ridden road. This is how the contractor is repairing the road right now," the angry netizen began in his long Twitter thread, adding, "We need a complete recarpeting of the road. I hope the larger Belgut people will not entertain this."
