I worked for Carrefour Kenya hub Karen branch for more than two years being in the market department fruits and vegetable section most of the projects were kept in the chillers where they go up to 3 degrees Celsius and most of the time we could work there more than 5 hours at night without proper clothing and if any they were never in good condition having been suffering from kidney failure it got worse but due to the hard life at home, I had to work but they never gave any support apart from the salary they give they never helped in paying any hospital bills the number of times I was admitted to an extent I had to borrow loan from the bank I was using at that time money that I have never finished paying up to date.
So after suffering for some month, I stopped working and I stayed home I could not afford the medical bills anymore so I stopped going for my dialysis program. Then they called me and changed the department to the cashier area where I was received customer parcel so I was still suffering and they never cared of my welfare and for many others, so I got into so much debt despite being at work I could not afford my medical bill and drugs and pay for my rent with the one month salary. I needed money that I could not afford. So one day I got some 100 dollars from one customer bag and they were so quick to fire me.
I know it was a mistake but there are so many other sick people working for this blood-sucking company and suffering in silence due to lack of work in the country.
I wish justice could have been served on my case and many others who were fired or sent away due to small and minor cases that could have been solved considering some get the disease due to the poor work environment and the workload we used to do. Overworking staff has been one of their way of making so much while paying so little for the service they get.
Shame on you Carrefour.
