PHOTO CAPTION: Swami Container Depot Limited yard The family of Jonathan Lelenguiya, a security guard who was mauled to death by four dogs in an attack at the Swami Container Depot Limited yard in Embakasi, Nairobi, now suspects that the Asian owners of the canines is scheming to compromise the case that is still under investigation.
Writing to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) a relative of the deceased reveals that the Asian yard owners have unlawfully tampered with the scene of crime by way of destruction.
The dogs that mauled the guard to death have since been neutralized and disposed of without informing relevant authorities. "We are seeking your good office to urgently intervene and take over investigations of the aforementioned matter," the letter dated 13th October 2022 reads in part. Mr Lelenguiya, who is a guard at Malplast Industries Limited - a private security company in the same area - was walking home on Monday, October 10, when he decided to pass by the neighbouring yard to say to a friend.
When he arrived at the depot, the German Shepherd dogs, which were loose, started to chase him as he took to his heels.
In a rather unfortunate turn of events, the gate behind him had automatically locked itself, which prevented him from escaping.
The four dogs pushed him to the ground and attacked him as he screamed for his dear life.
The handler who was present failed to control the animals as they mauled the helpless guard.
The handler had to call for help to successfully fight off and contain the dogs.
But by then, the deceased had already sustained serious injuries.
An ambulance was called to the scene and rushed him to the Bellevue South Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Medics stated he had bled too much and was too weak.
Sources say it is not the first time such an incident has been reported at Swami Container Depot, which is owned by a wealthy and powerful tycoon.
The guard's family is fearful they might not be able to fight off the Asians for compensation.
His colleagues have reportedly been told to "sign documents which they don't understand". "Some of the guys don't know how to read and write but they are being forced to sign documents. The Indian guy is busy compromising the case," a source at the yard informed this blog.
Adding "The dogs even cut his throat, the body is in a bad state. They ate even hands." Section 243 (d) of the Penal Code says any person who, in a manner so rash or negligent as to endanger human life or to be likely to cause harm to any other person omits to take precautions against any probable danger from any animal in his possession is guilty of a misdemeanour.
