[ad_1] Two administration police constables were on Tuesday charged with defrauding Pioneer Assurance Company Limited of more than Ksh2.4 million with the pretence that one of them had lost his right hand and leg.
The two AP officers, Dominic Lusweti Masengeli and David Maina Ichele, are accused of receiving compensation from the insurance company on grounds that Dominic’s hand and leg were amputated.
The prosecution lawyer stated that on September 5, the two and another accomplice, who was not present in court, fraudulently obtained Ksh2, 440,320 by pretending Mr. Lusweti had been involved in an accident.
They two allegedly forged a Kenya National Police Service Signal, Ref: TCL/14/VOLIII/27/2018, dated September 22, 2018, and claimed a base commander identified only as Mwingi sent it to one Ms. Irene Njagi.
The prosecution further said that the accused persons made a fake traffic accident abstract, Ref:P/AL807/0004550, and alleged it was from the police service.
The two constables are also accused of forging a medical report dated October 22, 2018, and claimed it was from Nairobi South Hospital.
The suspects were further accused of forging the official stamp used by the office of the deputy inspector-general of Administration Police to certify the forged accident documents.
Lusweti and Maina pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining money through pretence, forgery and presenting forged documents to insurers.
They were released on a cash bail of Ksh500,000 each after their lawyer Bryan Khaemba successfully applied to have them released on bond.
