Do you have a crush on Facebook whom you’ve always wanted to hit on but probably got scared of being embarrassed by a rejection note? Or that one person who keeps sending you pokes each and every time you are online? Or that one person who keeps liking your post even if you post nonsensical posts and you wonder whether they like you or not?
Well, no need to worry Facebook is finally coming to your rescue.
At the F8 2019 developer’s conference in San Jose, California on Tuesday, the giant tech firm announced that the social network’s dating platform is adding a new feature called Secret Crush – an advanced version of Facebook Dating which was announced about a year ago as a way to find potential matches within users’ friend lists or groups.
Users will be able to choose up to nine friends who they have crushes on. If those friends are also on Facebook Dating, and similarly select them, the feature will notify them both that they got a match and will be able to interlink them. Speaking with TechCrunch, Facebook Dating product manager Charmaine Hung outlined why she believes the new feature is so useful.
“I have 2,000 Facebook friends. I’m not best friends with all 2,000 people, and there’s a good chance that one of that could be a really good match with me,” Hung said. “I trust them, I appreciate them, and I know we’re compatible. The only thing missing is knowing if we’re both interested in being more than just friends without the fear of rejection if you were to do this in real life.”
Facebook assures users that it only makes secret crushes known if the feelings are mutual. If your crush is using Facebook Dating, If not, Facebook claims “no one will know that you’ve entered a friend’s name.” According to the company, Facebook Dating services will be rolling out to a more than 19 countries including Vietnam, Brazil, Ecuador, Malaysia, Canada, and Mexico by the end of 2019.
“Facebook is also expanding Dating to 14 more countries bringing the total to 19 countries around the world, including Brazil and Malaysia, and it will be available in the U.S. by the end of 2019,”said Fidji Simo, the head of the Facebook app.
For now, Facebook Dating remains only accessible through the mobile app and you have to be over 18 to use Facebook dating.
