Huduma Namba registration was easy to role out in the diaspora, and now that that is over, Kenya, a country which you can liken to an abusive marriage immediately stepped up efforts to force Kenyans into taking e-Passports.
Many wondered what was it all about.
But typical of abusive marriages, one partner can decide to always shift the goal posts and make life a living hell for the other.
That is how shoddy Kenya is run.
One would think that the emphasis to register people for Huduma Namba or to give them e-Passports is pegged in efficiency in service delivery by the government of Kenya (GoK), but that is not usually the case.
If you doubt this, then ask the people who registered for Huduma Namba and are now looking to replace their passport to the electronic one.
Kenyans in New Zealand and Australia wrote a letter demanding to know how they will get their e-Passports and they received a half cooked letter back from the Kenyan High Commission (HC) in Canberra, Australia as seen below.
In their WhatsApp group, some had complained that they only received oral communications from some staff at the Kenyan HC in Canberra but didn't believe and wanted a written and signed one.
'The Canberra high commission says you can travel just for one way to Kenya but you have to get a e-passport to come back. Mark you this is oral information from someone who was in their office last week. RE: LACK OF CLARITY ON THE MATTER OF EPASSPORTS FOR KENYANS LIVING IN AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND & THE PACIFIC REGION
Salutations!
We are in humble appreciation for the timely response the Office of the Kenyan High Commission in Canberra, Australia provided in a communique dated the 27th of June, 2019 in respect to our appeal for the establishment of an epassport processing centre to cater for the aforementioned Region.
We however feel rather unsatisfied with this communique on the following two specific grounds: It took our personal effort to rally the Community to get a response from the High Commission regarding its intention to have the epassport centre hosted at its facility. There has been no advanced communication prior to this lobbying effort. We are therefore not assured that any communication on the subject will be readily availed to us without further probing from the affected members of the Kenyan Community in the Region. That in as much as the High Commission has forthrightly indicated in the communique its lobbying and capacity to have the epassport processing services hosted at its facility, it was rather unclear on how it would place this request before the 1st September, 2019 anticipated directive from the Immigration Department in Nairobi. We are therefore unsure what to do for the next 2 months in anticipation of this directive. This is rather stressful. We therefore seek for a more concise directive from Nairobi, through your kind Office, regarding our demand for an epassport centre to serve the Kenyan Diaspora in this region PRIOR to the August, 31st, 2019 deadline.
Doing this will put us at ease over questions raised in our original letter brought to your attention.
We therefore look forward to hearing directly from the Ministry of Immigration in this regard. Thank you.
