Eugene Wamalwa reception leaves many in awe

The recent high profile reception of cabinet secretary in charge of Water and Irrigation Eugene Wamalwa in Trans Nzoia shook the Ford Kenya party in the county recently when the CS landed in two choppers at Moi’s Bridge before he joined a rally in Kitale town then later proceeded to his home at Milimani for ceremony. Addressing the public, speaker after speaker congratulated the Jubilee government for appointing their Trans Nzoia son to the cabinet. Saboti MP David Wafula said Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto did something good that may cause Trans Nzoia people to remember the government in 2017. He asked the CS to ensure at least jobless youths get employment opportunities in the ministry in case of any vacancies if they so qualify. He called other politicians to join hands together and work “like bees” in order to reap from devolution fruits from both the national and county governments. Wafula cautioned jobless youths against being hired by politicians to cause mayhem at funeral and at other public rallies urging them to desist from using politicians to heckle sitting elected leaders still in power. His sentiments were echoed by other leaders in the county who included former councillor Titus Mayiek, Philip Masinde, Margaret Tindi and David Alebu who condemned The National Alliance party supporters who heckled an MP when speeches were being delivered in town as the public welcomed the CS. Mayiek said TNA supporters lacked social morality to have used youths in the heckling saying even if they were up to leadership during the 2017 general elections in Trans Nzoia, discipline should be given first priority in their agenda and not to take advantage of jobless uouths to heckle other elected leaders. The leaders pleaded with party chairman Johnston Sakajja who was present to go it slow with his supporters and do away with a toddler’s politics. Touts from Railways stage who claimed that they were TNA supporters misbehaved before the guests as TNA leaders from the grassroots just watched. Other leaders who rebuked the primitive style of campaigning through inciting youths were Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi who attended the ceremony and Endebess MP Robert Pukose who sent his apologies and spoke to us phone following the incident. Pukose said as leaders, their mandate is to equip residents with new skills to come out of poverty but not to use them for their personal gains. “Sisi watu wa URP hatuna tabia kama hiyo ndio maana uwa ninasema karibuni kwa URP,” he said. In Wamalwa’s speech, he insisted that jobless youths should not be used to heckle elected leaders but instead wait until 2017 asking them to ensure they have voting identification and voting cards so that to vote for Uhuru and Ruto for the second and final term. He challenged the people of Trans Nzoia to support the national government to benefit from development. Back to how FK was shaken by the reception of Wamalwa, some FK supporters went ahead to say that if 2017 politics changes and Wamalwa decides to go for gubernatorial seat, then the duel will be against Wamalwa and Cosmas Nabungolo who has higher chances to take from Khaemba come 2017. Political analyst Pius Mwanje says Wamalwa is mature for national politics and if it happens that he decides to go for the senate seat, Nabungolo will take the gubernatorial seat early in the morning compared to other aspirants in what he said when people are tired with one’s style of leadership, the electorate vote overwhelmingly to ensure he is out of power, said Mwanje. Mwanje said if Wetang’ula could have attended the welcoming ceremony, to the reception that was given to Wamalwa. Other leaders present were former forest minister in the Mwai Kibaki’s government Noah Wekesa, Sakaja, women rep Janet Nangabo, Cherangany MP Wesley Korir, Chris Wamalwa, Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka, former Cherangany MP Kipruto Kirwa, Trans Nzoia county speaker David Sifuna, among other leaders and MCAs from Bungoma and Trans Nzoia led by leader of majority Alfred Weswa.
