Emergency Plus Medical Services (E-Plus) has obtained and commissioned two portable isolation chambers to up their capability to respond and safely evacuate covid-19 patients.
This is a good step towards combating the surging numbers of covid-19 infections. E-plus boss Susan Ng’ong’a said through a statement that their plan is to equip all advanced cardiac life support units with the portable isolation chambers.
She continued to clarify that the acquisition of the two isolation chambers will mitigate and reduce the risk of contamination and infection, hence creating a safe working environment for ambulance crew as well as covid-19 patients.
"E-Plus is one of the facilities that have been very active at the forefront undertaking evacuations to assist the state in Covid-19 mitigation efforts. They provide safe evacuations for suspected and confirmed cases and the two chamber units will boost their capacity to respond effectively and safely including regionally with reduced exposure to the ambulance team.
She was speaking during the commissioning of the two chambers when she also called on key players in health sector to take up the challenge and play a key role in reducing the spread of covid-19. [p/courtesy] The functionality of the unit was demonstrated by Dr Christine Memusi who is E-Plus medical director also said that the portable isolation chamber works in negative pressures for the transport of contaminated patients.
Dr. Memusi further added that E-Plus paramedics and ambulance operators have been thoroughly trained on the application of the newly acquired chambers but will still be refreshed before deployment.
The country is currently experiencing a surge in the number of Covid-19 infections reported daily. Kenya is now registering surging numbers of new covid-19 cases and the Health Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has attributed the surge to community infections as asymptomatic cases keep rising. Mutahi said that there is an increase in the number of healthcare providers contracting the coronavirus. Data from the health docket was based on the response team results.
