The Director of Public Prosecution office has rejected the criminal charges levelled against two bloggers that exposed the rot in procurement at Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
The two, Jack Okinyi of Business Illustrated and Milton Were of Kenya Today were abducted by police after they were lured to a hotel in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
They were tortured for the story they published about a shoddy road works that stalled that was being undertaken by a politically-linked firm Tosha Holdings Limited.
The multi-million roads project stalled as the firm lacks experience in doing such works. The blog wrote that the money already paid cannot be accounted for as they ‘squandered 95% of funds allocated and leaving much work not completed as per the agreement by the KURA’.
Now DPP has refused to accept the charges brought against them, creating a stand-off.
Most of the time the DCI has been arresting people whom they can't prove charges in court, making DPP look weak and disorganised. Over the past few months, the DPP has refused to be misused in such . In May 2018, DPP also dropped my case in the same fashion, having been fully aware of the fake charges. The two bloggers who were transferred from Capitol Hill Police station to Muthaiga Police station have been taken back to cells.
The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has been alerted on the going on.
