Covid-19 WARNING to my Family and friends This is my COVID-19 journey that I, Danson, experienced in the Months of February and March 2021.
On 15th February, I felt unwell, my whole body felt weak with Malaria like fever. I felt hot one moment, next I was cold, joints ached, loss of taste and generally felt like I had the mother of ALL hangovers, yet I had not drunk. I went to hospital, had tests done, diagnosis, bacterial infection. I got my prescription and went home. I took the full dose for five days. NO CHANGE.
On 20th February, I returned to the same hospital, informed them I had finished my dose but there was no change. The triage nurse gave me one look, got my vitals, and informed me that my oxygen levels were low and dropping. I needed oxygen. I was isolated in a ward, given oxygen mask, and noticed that before the doctor saw me, he changed into Covid-19 PPE. The doctor advised we do a CT Scan to see if my chest was blocked, the results confirmed the same. I needed hospital admission as I could not process enough oxygen on my own. (NB. I took myself to hospital a out-patient case. It was not an emergency I thought ). To be admitted a Covid-19 patient, a deposit of Kshs. 600k had to be paid first to get a bed. That information momentarily 'HEALED' me, then the rollercoaster ride began.
I could not raise that deposit. Alternative hospitals were asking for similar amounts. My health insurance Agent advised I get a referral letter to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH). Armed with my referral letter and CT Scan, I arrived at KUTRRH. The first thing I was given was an oxygen mask to assist in breathing. I was admitted as Covid-19 patient and tested. Danson in hospital
On 21st February, 24hrs after admission the results came back POSITIVE. I was still on oxygen assisted breathing, I was transferred to the Isolation and Covid-19 Wards. For six nights I stared at the ceiling re-living my LIFE. The options at this stage were two: LIFE or DEATH, literally. I was determined to Live, and I took my phone and noted down these words: "Am getting better and better, I am healthy, my mind and body are working in perfect harmony. On 26th February, The Mighty-Miracle-Healing-Power of God shone upon my soul and I am discharged for Self-Isolation and Home-Based Care and recuperation. The news elated me and was a reality-check-moment for me: "I have another chance on LIFE. I will Do Life" Danson 2.0 has been loaded. Tracker
For 14 days (27th February to 12th March) I self-Isolated at home, (luckily my three children are in boarding), recuperating, exercising, and soul searching. On the 13th Day, 11th March I tested Negative for Covid-19.
Family and friends, I am a Covid-19 survivor, YOU do not need to be. WEAR your FACE MASK in public, SANITIZE, WASH YOUR HANDS, and observe MOH COVID-19 Protocols. Exercise Daily for at least half an hour. The 3rd Covid-19 Wave is here with us.
