Plans to convert the Dandora dumpsite into a fully-fledged processing area with final disposal at Ruai are at an advanced stage, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has said. Speaking from Fukuoka, Japan where he is on a weeklong working tour of various facilities as well as sign MoU agreements with the Japanese government, Kidero explained that the technology to be used will not create danger to aeroplanes and bird strikes will be completely minimized.
“This technology will also put in place measures to curb toxic gas emission,” he said, adding that the Sh13 billion plant will create massive employment for youth in Dandora and Ruai areas.
Governor Kidero also visited the headquarters of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), international environment strategies division in Kitakyushu City to receive briefing on waste management solutions.
“The Eco-town is a perfect example of how the Japanese have been able to reclaim 2,000 hectares of land from the sea and is now a model Eco-Town for recycling domestic and industrial waste. This area was once known as sea of death because of the polluted waters. Today it is an economical friendly town that is being emulated all over Japan. I am here to form formidable partnerships with the Japanese to enable me transform Nairobi City into a Better City that offers a Better life,” he enthused.
Kidero was accompanied by Kasarani MP John Njoroge, Member of County Assembly Benson Amutavy, Environment Executive Officer Evans Ondieki and his trade counterpart Anna Othoro.
